Man, it's crazy out there. Not so much snow as ice pellets. And it's loud, like a rushing river kind of sound. Loud even with my iPod way up.
Not too cold though, so it was really nice, until the wind changed and my face was being pelted with high velocity ice needles.

The Cooks Illustrated vanilla ice cream recipe includes chilling the custard 4-8 hours.
The CI French-style ice cream is heaven in a bowl, but in a pinch, Philadephia-style (1.5 cups milk, 3 cups cream, 1 1/8 cup sugar, 1 tsp vanilla, whisk, freeze, done) does me just fine, and only takes half an hour.

Well that's just craxy. It's not a custard base if the yolks aren't cooked! The heat is what breaks down the proteins in the eggs and makes them wrap around the milkfats in nummy and texturally pleasing ways! Plus it helps release flavors from the vanilla bean. All hail heat!
