Everything looks good from here... Yes. Yes, this is a fertile land, and we will thrive. We will rule over all this land, and we will call it... 'This Land.' I think we should call it 'your grave!' Ah, curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal! Ha ha HA! Mine is an evil laugh! Now die! Oh, no, God! Oh, dear God in heaven!

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

you get to celebrate everybody's festivals in a spirit of ecumenicalism without having to go through with the sacrificial parts

But! The pyres! The ritual! The knives!

I do love a good sacrifice.

According to my Canadian Friend and her Catholic mother, it's Shrove Tuesday, and they will celebrate by eating pancakes and bacon.

hip deep in pie

Growing up we referred to it as either Shrove Tuesday or Pancake Tuesday.

Dude, I'm so out of the religion loop that it wasn't until high school that I figured out why we had fish Fridays in the cafeteria.

Punishingly Intricate

We'd often have pancakes for dinner, not just on Shrove Tuesday. My brothers and dad would have them with syrup and my mom and I would have them with peach yogurt and call them crepes. I'd feel very sophisticated!

No, I have NO idea how to pronounce it.

In czech, cvrtek (ch-vrr-tek) was one of my favorite hard-to-say words. Along with the one that meant four. (ch-teerrzhee)
