Message I received on another board. Perhaps some of our LA contingent would be interested:

Hilton Burbank Airport & Convention Center
2500 Hollywood Way
Burbank, CA 91505-1019
If you haven't signed up for The Watcher's Retreat, now is the time to do so! We've got an amazing line-up of guests and activities you haven't seen at any other fan event.
Guests include actors James Marsters, Amber Benson, Mark Lutz, Andy Hallett, Armin Shimmerman, James C. Leery, Max Perlich, Robia Lamorte, Ken Lerner, Sharon Ferguson, David Wells, Channon Roe; novelists Jeff Mariotte, Maryelizabeth Hart, Keith DeCandido; musical guests Ghost of the Robot, Jessica Jacobs, Velvet Chain, and Grant Langston and the Supermodels; and make-up artist Robert Hall. Plus more surprises!
We have tons of exciting events planned.
Friday night is out Welcoming Reception. Meet the fans, meet some of the VIPs, and listen to live music! That's right, James Marsters band,
Ghost of the Robot,
will be kicking off this event, followed by a performance by the talented Jessica Jacobs.
Saturday there are tons of Q&A panels, signing sessions and improv games. Dinner on Saturday is a special event. Win a chance to sit near Amber Benson or James Marsters at dinner! And Saturday will come to a close with more live entertainment! Velvet Chain opens with Grant Langston to follow.
Sunday is more fun-filled Q&A panels, signing sessions and improv games.
We're so excited about this event, and are thrilled to bring these exciting activities. We think we've put together a rare event that will bring fans an experience they haven't recieved at any other convention or fan event. We've had so much positive feedback from not only you, the fans, but the cast and crew of the show as well.
Unfortunately, while we have all this positive feedback, the reponse via sign-ups hasn't been as successful. So far, we've only recieved a fraction of the sign-ups we need to hold an event this size, and because of this, our financial support is thinking of pulling out. This is something we definetly do not want to happen, and we are doing everything in our power to prevent it.
Here's where you can help. If you're interested in coming, sign-up! If you've been waiting till the last minute, we encourage you to sign-up now. We know it's a little price-y, but I assure you, it will be worth
your while!
Help us spread the word! The more people who find out about this, the more who will sign up, the more likely this event will happen! Pass this e-mail on to anyone you think might be interested, or even those who aren't but might know someone who is.
Unfortunately, if we do not recieve enough sign-ups by Sunday, October 20, the event will have to be cancelled or rescheduled. So get the word out and sign-up before it's too late!
We hope everyone is excited as we are. Hope to see your sign-up soon!

Would have been helpful if they'd sent this out earlier, but it does sound like fun.

Pictures from the Berea F2F. Point and click, baby.
A couple of them need explanation; there are fisting monkeys, bourbon balls (heh, it says balls!), and Greeks with mullets (from my Latin book).
And this is us, after we climbed Shin's Erection, which is this abolutely pointless tower that our president insisted be built. We went to the head of the erection.
Everything else is pretty much self-explanatory: pleather, porn, and cleavage. Hell yeah.
Recaps will be forthcoming; check the livejournals.
Just spoke to Joss' assistant. He hadn't spoken to Petrie, but was there when Joss and Kai got the basket. Kai LOVED the hoodie, Sophia, thought the colors were beautiful. Also said that the book selection was amazing, that Buffistas has great taste.
Um...I'm not sure if this is appropriate here but I noticed the Watcher's Retreat post. I would advise people to proceed with caution before handing over a bunch of money on that one.
Buffistas, can you help me out?
If you ever watched Farscape (even once), please go here and fill out the survey?
Many thanks!
Our own Erinaceous is on WGN radio at this very moment (couldn't log on here until now!).

I'll put up a link when tonight's show is archived. She did get in a plug for "foamy"!!
I have read this entire thread as it's gone along, but lately I retain next to nothing, so please forgive me if this has already been posted.
The Cigna Foundation (link ->) http://www.cignafoundation.org/ is donating a dollar to the Susan G. Komen Foundation (a breast cancer charity) if you go the the Cigna link above, and click on the pink ribbon.
Here's their explanation blurb:
The CIGNA Foundation is proud to support the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in its mission to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease.
During October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the CIGNA Foundation will donate $1 for every click on the pink ribbon to the left, up to $100,000. This gift will be part of our overall contribution to National Denim Day, which solely benefits the Komen Foundation.
It's only through the end of this month, so please click away Buffistas. I know two people from the Buffy Fandom at large, fighting breast cancer specifically, out of 4 people I've met through the fandom living with any cancers/in remission from cancer - total.
As it's the month, it might be a good time to plug http://www.thebreastcancersite.com as well.
I originally had my wordy and poorly worded explanation of the breast cancer site. I'm editing here to give you their own words instead.
43,300 women are lost to breast cancer each year -- that's one mother, sister, daughter or friend every 12 minutes. Join The Breast Cancer Site's Chain of Hope, and help save lives.
In mere seconds and at no cost, you can help provide the lifesaving gift of early detection to underprivileged women.
Simply visit The Breast Cancer Site (http://www.thebreastcancersite.com/home) every day and click on the Fund Free Mammograms button to help fund free mammograms and reduce the number of lives lost to breast cancer.
Clicking is free. Funding for free mammography screenings is paid by site sponsors.
With your help, the lives of 2,000 underprivileged women -- or more -- will be touched in 2002 thanks to funding from The Breast Cancer Site. The sky is the limit! The more people who click, the more mammograms funded. Please join The Chain of Hope by clicking daily and spreading the word to your friends and family.

Teppy! The full size picture is giant, but I am so proud of this picture, I wanted to post it asap!
[edit] accessible now
I am about to make a change to this site's design that may make posts appear in either a smaller or larger font size than what you're used to. What it should do is, instead of using MY predefined font size, it will now use the default font size of your browser (which can be changed within your browser's preferences. This should only affect the text within posts and maybe some text in random places like the how-to and etiquette. If you notice anything weird, post in BBaBB. If this change causes more problems than it solves, it's a simple matter to change it back.
This change should fix some IE and Netscape 4.X bugs that have been mentioned in BBaBB (read the recent posts in that thread if you want the gory details)
