Proposal: To add a new thread dedicated to the works of Tim Minear.
The purpose of the thread will be to discuss past, present, and future series and episodes, and
also to honor one of our own. Suggestions for thread title can be discussed in Bureaucracy if the proposed thread passes.
If the proposed thread passes, it will be added to the Phoenix the first week of August 2003, at

I just found out that the fine folks behind the Eldred vs. Ashcroft lawsuit are refocusing their efforts on the legislative branch after the Supreme Court determined they didn't have a right to controvert the Congressional law on this point.
This group, led by Stanford Law professor Larry Lessig, is advocating an expansion of the public domain, specifically requiring that a copyright holder pay $1 to renew a copyright after 50 years or the material moves into the public domain. The public domain is a deeply valuable resource which contributes to the development of all the arts and sciences--and the wide availablility of our intellectual history is essential to the kind of creative thinking that has served the United States so well.
Please take a look at the Reclaim the Public Domain Petition and consider signing it and/or passing the word along to your friends.

Heya,
We got a letter from My Friend's Place thanking us for the donation we made from the sale of raffle tix at F2F:
Dear Allyson,
Thank you for your generous gift of $110.00 in honor of Mr. Tim Minear from his fans at Buffistas.org on 6/12/2003. Your contribution to My Friend's Place is greatly appreciated.
Your gift makes it possible for My Friend's Place to continue its mission: to inspire and assist the homeless and high risk youth of Los Angeles to build self-sufficient lives.
Through your generosity My Friend's Place wil provide meals, clothes, and the opportunity to see a doctor or other health care professional, and guidance to homeless young people in Los Angeles.
On behalf of us at My Friend's Place, thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
David Brinkman

Premiere magazine Buffy S4 Giveaway.
They're giving away three copies, the catch is that by entering you sign up for their online newsletter (and, I'm assuming, other spam that they don't mention). Still, free Buffy DVDs!

We called Best Buy, and it is a scam for card #'s. The site should be shut down by now, but just a heads up if you've recieved anything similar.
Edit: And in a strange bit of, I dunno -but something, the e-mail comes from Drusilla Fwpreg.
An update, or rather, further information, about the Best Buy scam: my husband got the same email (different merchandise, of course), someone hitting Best Buy with an order placed on our corporate account. This was yesterday.
My husband's business partner says he spoke with Best Buy and the scam seemed to be aimed straight at them.
This was yesterday, so the site may not be shut down yet.
