Love is stronger than death and harder than sorrow. Those who practice it are fierce like the light of stars traveling eons to pierce the night.

One of the women who lives at the group home of which I am house coordinator could use a bit of help.

She has a severe and uncontrolled seizure disorder as well as immune deficiency issues. And she is only just now getting back on her feet after being slammed with influenza and a UTI this winter.

She attended a week every summer for many years at a lovely camp for people with disabilities. It always seemed to perk her up a bit. Sadly after last summer, the camp announced it was folding. There are various organizations in this area that offer vacation and camping opportunities for people with disabilities, but they are uniformly more costly; which may explain why that camp folded. Since she is unfamiliar with the new camp, she will need a higher care ratio (number of persons supported per staff member), which adds to the expence. Even with financial aid, she still has to come up with over $1000 on her own. This is more than she can readily afford.

Please consider helping me help her: my Paypal account is merriwyllow@yahoo.com

Thank you, most excellent Buffistas.

I am so grateful for all the gifts toward camp for this woman I have the privilege of serving. In a very short time, we have gathered up $300 to help her. That is enough to tip her over the half way point, at which the camp will allow her to make payments on the remainder. This kind of love and generosity humbles me. I am hoping to shave at least $750 off the fee for camp for her. She will be leaving for camp on Sunday, June 3. If anyone has been thinking of helping out but has not yet had a chance, I can forward money to her camp account at any time.

I’m responsible for my own happiness? I can’t even be responsible for my own breakfast! (Bojack Horseman)

Tom is taking pre-orders for his 100 Heroines Book - several of y'all supported his Kickstarter, but here's an opportunity to buy it if you missed it (or buy more copies). He's done 86 heroines so far, and they're all awesome (although I am biased.) There's a sample to check out, Heroines #1-10.

Spread the word!

We gathered a total of $450 for camp for the woman I support. I dropped her off at camp today. She loves porch swings; there is only one porch swing on the entire camp property - right in front of her cabin. This was so perfect, that I had goosebumps driving away after getting her settled in. I hope today somehow you all got to feel a wave of love, because my gratitude for Buffista magic is enormous, and I hope it reaches you.

In case anybody else meant to back this Kickstarter and flaked (like me), there are 16 hours left on the RBG action figure:

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

The Light Bulbs thread has been opened to discuss a proposal to consider updating the "About this site" language to make it clear who we are. Please see the thread for more details.
