Mal: So we run. Nandi: I understand, Captain Reynolds. You have your people to think of, same as me. And this ain't your fight. Mal: Don't believe you do understand, Nandi. I said 'we run'. We.

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

Yo! Somervillains!

THEREMIN MARCH MADNESS IN CAMBRIDGE, MA!

Who needs a witty intro? Let the concept wit for itself.

Every Friday night in March, I (known this month as Jonnie Spaceman) will be playing melodies on my theremin alongside various and sundry other local musicians. Each week will have a different theme as follows:

March 7 - The Beatles' Revolver album in it's entirety (the 14 song UK/CD version, of course!). Accompanying will be Tony Goddess (Papas Fritas, Prettiest Gurls) on guitar and Winston Yu (Boston Philharmonic, Solar Saturday) on violin.

March 14 - Disco Hits of the 70's. With Michael McLaughlin (The Pee Wee Fist, Naftule's Dream, Shirim) on accordion. That's right -- theremin and accordion arrangements of disco tunes.

March 21 - Punk/New Wave Hits of the 70's and 80's. Guests tentatively scheduled include Clint Conley (Mission of Burma, Consonant), Winston Braman (Fuzzy, Consonant, Count-Me-Outs), Hilken Mancini (Fuzzy, Count-Me-Outs, Punk Rock Aerobics), and Jeff Czekaj (Tardy, Anchormen, Sinkcharmer).

March 28 - Techno-Theremin-Megamix. A more improvisational evening with Jake Trussell (DJ C, Electro Organic Sound System, Tiger Saw, Cul De Sac) on turntables and electronics.

It all happens at ZuZu's, 474 Mass. Ave. in Central Square, Cambridge, MA. Shows start at 11:30pm sharp. Admission is FREE but space is limited, so arrive early and have some dinner....

Any questions, email me or post in the Music thread (I can never keep up with Natter, and Music seems appropriate for this).

S to the A -- using they/them pronouns!

This is the best thing every made: The Wayback Machine. It's a search function of the UC Berkeley Internet Archive Project, which regularly sweeps the 'net to archive sites and pages. Just enter the URL and go.

It's extraordinarily cool and helpful.

Nobody

Since tonight is a Buffy re-run (Selfless) in NAFDA country, I thought I'd point out that the Boston Public Television station is running J.R.R. Tolkien: Master of the Rings.

For most Somervillain shaped Buffistas, you'll catch it on channel 2 from 8-10pm. The site lists the following schedule:

Tuesday, March 4, 8pm, WGBH 2
Saturday, March 8, 4:30pm, WGBH 44
Sunday, March 9, 3:30pm, WGBH 44
Thursday, March 13, 1pm, WGBH 44

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

(*whew*)

Simple majority defeated higher majority on our last ballot. The only problem is, the Buffista who wrote up the ballot used an archaic definition of majority. (She also sometime uses shan't and whilst in her posts.) So, now we need to define "majority" in cases where more than two options are available to voters. We are doing this whilst blindfolded, with our hands tied behind our backs, as we screw in a lightbulb with our teeth.

Your vote on the last ballot does not commit you to vote in any certain way on this ballot.

What do you think a "simple majority" means and how would you like it applied to determine future votes?

Choice 1: An option which receives more than 50% of the vote wins.

Choice 2: Whichever option has the most votes wins.

Choice 1 means that in the rare cases where a ballot question has more than two choices, there may need to be runoff ballots, or you will have to vote preferentially, or we will decide that the vote fails if no choice initially gets 50%. We will decide this either vote by vote, or else there will be another vote where this gets decided for all future ballots.

Choice 2 means that a choice could win even though it received only a fraction of the total votes cast. For example, if there are five choices that receive 22%, 21%, 20%, 19%, 18%, the choice that received 22% would win with no further balloting.

VOTE HERE

Voting starts Tuesday night (March 4, 2003) at midnight and closes Friday night (Mar. 7, 2003) at midnight (that would be "Board Time", i.e. EST)

(did I say *whew*?)

If this isn't pertinent, a stompy is welcome to smash:

If you receive an e-mail that looks like it's from PayPal asking you for your bank account information, with all the graphics and doodads in the right places, you might want to double check that it isn't something like this e-mail fraud scheme.
