'Day' is a vestigial mode of time measurement based on solar cycles. It's not applicable. I didn't get you anything.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Don't know if there are any Vancouverites reading here, but if there are, I encourage you to check this out:

Love and Other Dilemmas begins a theatrical run in Vancouver on February 1, 2008 at the Empire Granville 7. Please come! We’d love it if you could tell all your friends and family to come to see it, too. It’s so important that Canadian indie films are supported during the opening weekend on Friday, Saturday or Sunday – please come to see it or buy tickets online.

It's a movie made by two very dear friends of mine. I haven't seen the finished product, but I got to read the script as they went along, and it's fresh and funny and different.

Not meaning to nag, but if people have an interest in having a Midwest F2F this year, we really need to get make decisions and take action. If there isn't interest this year, please ignore me, but I would hate to go much longer and not be able to have one at all.

So far the only city that has been officially pimped is Madison by SailAweigh, but we'd also talked about St. Louis, Memphis, Ann Arbor...so here's the pimpage info I'd posted a few months ago based on what we've done in the past. I think it's probably too late for the earlier dates, but I'll throw it all there FYI.

---

Things we need to decide:

When? Range for possible weekends (defined by Saturday): March 22, March 29, April 5, April 12, April 19, April 26, May 3, May 10, May 17, May 24, May 31, June 7, June 14, June 21, June 28.

Where? All nominations should have a contact person (preferably local).

Where 2? Hotel/Prom location (trying to keep as close to $100 for rooms as possible)

---

For pimping, I suggest the following format:

MY CITY PIMPAGE

Why here? Description of why your town/city rocks like a rocking thing. Past pimpage has included weather, links to fun events/museums/things to do, etc.

Initial Hotel/Prom Possibilities A few hotels you've looked into so far with tentative group rates and Prom locations/catering/bar/closeness to hotel, etc.

---

Several of us have handled hotel reservations in the past for Buffistas, so feel to ask if you need further clarification. I did NOLA and still have that schtuff somewhere.

Here is a link to Sail's proposal: SailAweigh "F2F 4: Too Much Candy, Never Enough Mojitos." Dec 3, 2007 8:07:13 am PST

In the meantime, if people are interested, perhaps meet in the F2F thread and start putting it together?

To understand what happened at the diner, we shall use Mr. Papaya! This is upsetting because he's the friendliest of fruits.

Previously, I had mentioned that my guest tonight on The Eclectic Word was scheduled to be Susan Gubar, author of the brilliant Poetry After Auschwitz. Alas, Ms. Gubar has been detained by a family emergency, and will have to be rescheduled for a later date.

Thankfully, I have superheroes ready to step into the breach, and tonight, at 7 p.m. EST Friday, January 18thth, my guests will be poets Derrick Brown, Amber Tamblyn and other contributors to Write Bloody Press' The Last American Valentine. We will be discussing the language of love, so give it a listen!

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Hey Buffistas! It's that time of year again, and I'm looking for donations for the board monthly fees. A huge thanks to everyone who's given in the past, and if you never have, why not do it now? Any amount you can give is appreciated.

You can send money via paypal to donations at buffistas dot org, or email for my mailing address if you want to send a check.

Thanks!

Mostly lurking...

Beauty and the Bug has a new entry up (well, a bunch of them, actually), but I thought since this one focuses on the Buffistas (without naming them...gotta keep the family away!), I'd share.

On Always Having a Place to Stay

Poke around the site too. There are some new project pictures up and a new Valentine's Day header (I do love my Deena!), plus three trip-inspired blog entries that were posted while I was in St. Thomas.

Enjoy!

Hear ye, hear ye!

We have three cities officially in the running for this year's Midwest F2F: Madison, Minneapolis, and Houston. (Detroit/Ann Arbor may also be added soon). This is your last chance to declare yourself point person and pimp another city. Any takers? We've had the discussion up for a couple of weeks, so we're planning to vote for city tonight.

Come to the F2F thread for discussion/additional pimpage.

not your mom's socks.

Shameless self-pimpage:

Am about finished with a big navigation redesign at travelswithchild.org and would love any feedback

thanks to a brilliant suggestion by Raq, we now have drop-down by-region and by-age categories. Plus a bunch more - book reviews, a monthly post about places to visit... your suggestions for topics are more than welcome!

And I ordered a bunch of moo cards... swag may be coming soon -

t goes back to real job. looks back longingly.

I just figured out I haven't been getting confirmation emails from paypal, so THANKS, y'all, and I'm sorry if I don't get individual emails to everyone.
