Attention Somervillains --
On Guard
a French swashbuckling movie, is playing tomorrow at the Brattle. Since it's supposed to be a dreadful snow day, I'm all about leaving the car behind to go by T to see the 2:15 or 4:45 show. Anybody interested in joining me, please let me know!
Ready for a little old-fashioned swashbuckling? Well, this acclaimed French film is ready to deliver. The villainous Count Gonzague (Luchini) stands to inherit a fortune from his cousin, the Duke of Nevers (Perez), but not if the dashing duke produces an heir before Gonzague can bump him off. Lagardere (Auteuil), a promising young swordsman, is hired to do the dirty deed, but instead develops a friendship with the Duke and earns his trust when he warns him of a cowardly ambush. The pair then set off from Paris to the provinces, where a one-night stand has given Nevers a child by the daughter of a local nobleman. A wedding beckons, but not before Gonzague unleashes his worst, leaving Lagardere protecting the baby, and swearing vengeance. But, our hero must bide his time, disguised as a humpback for 16 years, hiding the rightful heir, until the time is right for revenge.

DC area Buffistas: In preparation for kicking off a Buffy rpg, I'm having a Buffy DVD party Wednesday Jan. 8th. This is remedial buffing up (sorry) for some non-fan players, but we'll probably watch the Season 3 DVDs anyway because I'M running the show.
All are welcome, email me at zone_wombat@yahoo.com.
Got a thank you note from Doug Petrie today, for the baby basket we sent.
