I'm just, uh, just feeling kinda... truthsome right now. And, uh... life's just too damn short for ifs and maybes.

BEYOND 4 WALLS BOOK DRIVE

Reading changes lives. We ask you to partner with us to impact and improve the lives of incarcerated children and teenagers, by purchasing books for the BEYOND 4 WALLS BOOK DRIVE.

The Barry J. Nidorf Juvenile Detention Facility in Sylmar houses 600+ children and teens. The members of the Nidorf Collective, a group of students from the UCLA Information Studies graduate program, have been volunteering at the facility for the past year, bringing books to this underserved population. The Beyond 4 Walls Book Drive, sponsored by the GSA Community Service Commission, will further the work to give the gift of reading to these kids.

How can you contribute?

1) The best and simplest way is to use this link to select books for the kids from the "Beyond 4 Walls Wish List" on Amazon.com:

[link]

The books on this list have been requested by the teens at Nidorf and/or recommended by the library students in the UCLA MLIS program, who have seen what a difference books and reading make to this population. After you use the link, please forward this message to others who might also like to make a fundamental difference in this ongoing literacy program. The email campaign will run from Friday, May 18th to Friday, June 8th. (Please note and make use of all the tools Amazon gives you to view the books by highest priority, by price, in detail, or in summary.)

2) Mail used or new paperbacks to me (profile addy is good).

The GSA Community Service Commission, the members of the Nidorf Collective, and the kids at Nidorf thank you for giving your time and energy to community service. Your donation makes a big difference.

ETA: In terms of parameters, I don't think we want anything that glorifies violence or gangs. Those subjects are okay, just not something that says, "Yay blood!" For the record, the kids I've been in contact with love poetry, graphic novels, horror, and "books about gangbanging." They always ask for the Tupac poetry book.

brillig

Gloom, are there any parameters for types of books you're looking for or want to avoid?

That man was going to shank me. Over an omelette. Two eggs and a slice of government cheese. Is that what my life is worth?

Chicagoistas: Just a reminder that we're planning on going to the Buffy Sing-Along on June 8. You can buy tickets here: [link]

Also, if you're going, please email me to let me know!

The artist formerly associated with cupcakes.

For those who are on LJ, but maybe don't read it very often and so didn't see my burbling: I've changed usernames on lj. prncsmoonbeam is now cupcake_goth.

(Stompies, if this isn't appropriate here, please feel free to delete it. I'm just trying to get the news out to people I know.)

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

We're starting the post-Experimental TV Threads discussion, and I'm curious about where people are on a couple of issues. Fill out a poll, whydon'tcha? These are completely unofficial.

Buffista TV issues (Note that on the first question, you can pick more than one answer)

Mostly lurking...

For those of you in the Kansas/Kansas City area, I have a really fabulous concert opportunity for you.

The group, Octarium [link] (which both my brother and SIL are performers in) are doing a couple of concerts in the next week, or so. And they are really cool. The concept for the series is Should've Been Choral. They've taken music that was not written to be choral and arranged it to be sung by their group. They are fantastic (and, yes, I'm biased).

The concerts are:

June 7 2007 St. Margaret's Episcopal Church 5700 West Sixth Street Lawrence, Kansas 7:30 p.m.

June 12 2007 Village Presbyterian 6641 Mission Road (67th & Mission) Prairie Village, Kansas 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are $15 at the door, $10 for students and seniors. I highly recommend that you check them out. They really are fantastic, and this is a neat series.

Chicagoistas, this is a reminder about the Buffy Sing-Along on Friday night. I just sent out an email to those who said they're going (Kathy and aurelia) about supper beforehand.

If you would like to go and want in on the discussion of food, email me and let me know you're coming! (Midwest list is still on the fritz for me, so I can't send info via that, sorry.)

I meant to post this last night, but I'm doing the Korman for the Cure. I'm not racing or even walking. No, no, they offer a Sleeping In option.

Full explanation and shameless plea for sponsorship here: [link]

Many thanks to those who have already donated. I was a little verklempt on waking this morning.

Hello Buffistas,

I hoping some of you may remember me, a long-time lurker, with only very occasional posts.

Still, I have a request. I have entered a "Real Woman Model Contest" with a local Vancouver designer. They are choosing the winners via voting, and so I hereby shameless request some votes.

The website is www.babs.ca. You need to register at the site to vote.

I appreciate any and all support. My name is Audrey Rempel, and I am in the 'triangle' section. If you have any questions, you can email me at audo65 at yahoo.com.

Thanks Abby
