To understand what happened at the diner, we shall use Mr. Papaya! This is upsetting because he's the friendliest of fruits.

They They Thought They Had Beaten It ... They Thought It Was Gone ...... but "How To Succeed As A Failing Writer" has returned, with my newest column ... Questions on Airplanes: Thoughts on poetry, cognitive dissonance and Harold Bloom.

Hmmm ... and somehow, with those keywords, I suspect it won't be as popular as the ones about sex and politics.

I know my own heart and understand my fellow man. But I am made unlike anyone I have ever met. I dare to say I am like no one in the whole world. - Anne Lister

I'm about to start doing some volunteer work through UCLA at a juvenile detention facility in Sylmar, CA. Part of my work will be outreach to find books for the incarcerated teens. Naturally I thought of the Buffistas, lovers of books. Here is what is needed:

  • Paperback books only
  • Comics and graphic novels a-okay (some have even requested Astonishing X-Men)
  • Age range is 12-17, boys and girls
  • Used is great
  • There is also a Wish List on Amazon >[link]

If you have anything you'd like to donate, please contact me at my profile addy. Thanks!

DCistas -- You may have heard or read about the devastating fire at Eastern Market last week. In support of Eastern Market, several area bars and restaurants are donating percentages of their receipts tonight to the rescue fund. This fund will not only help to rebuild, but will also help to support the vendors while the structure is being rebuilt. Go here for a list of establishments.

Compassionately intolerant

Thanks for posting that Vortex!

In addition, I went to the town hall meeting last night with hundreds of residents, most of the vendors and the mayor. If localistas would like an update on the rebuilding plan, or to be alerted to upcoming meetings, ping my profile addy.

Brenda Novak [link] romance and romantic suspense author, is holding an auction of writerly, readerly, and just plain fun things to support Juvenile Diabetes research. Drollerie Press has donated some items, including a signed, inscribed copy of our novel Still Life with Devils by Deborah Grabien. Even if you don't bid on anything from DP, it's a good cause and there are some amazing things up for sale from some great authors.
