Tara: What's so bad about them coming here? Aren't they good guys? I mean, Watchers, that's just like whole other Gileses, right? Buffy: Yes! They're scary and horrible!

Compassionately intolerant

Howze this for silly?

A friend periodically casts me in his short films. Usually the ones involving political statements...and general goofiness.

In this one, I play a security consultant being quizzed about the Department of Education's hiring practices. I'm in the first and last scenes.

Did I mention the silliness?

Don't say I didn't warn you.

Lurching from one disaster to the next.

Don't know if this has been posted anywhere else on B.org but in case it hasn't, and in case it might impact someone we know and love, I'm posting this link here: US pet food recall.

The food that is part of the recall has apparently caused the deaths of a few cats and dogs.

Chicagoistas!

Saturday I went to see Thom Pain (based on nothing), put on by Theater Wit at the Viaduct. The play was written by Will Eno, garnering him a Pulitzer nomination; The New York Times called the play "Samuel Beckett for the Jon Stewart generation". It's seventy minutes of awesome, and I highly recommend it for any Buffista who has twenty bucks and a free evening.

(More reviews at The Chicago Sun-Times or the Chicago Reader.)

It plays Thursdays through Sundays, but it's only running until April 14.

"Fuck Western ideologically-motivated gender identification!" Sulu gasped, and came.

Yo! Artistically-knowledgable Buffistas!?!?

Way back when we used to have avatars, I seem to recall someone fleetingly (perhaps Amych? Or...well, someone) sporting a lovely image that was a Whistler painting. A lady in a black dress, iirc.

I'm trying to find this specific Whistler painting at the minute, and have been for hours, and Google is giving me No. Love. At. All.

I believe this is a portrait in one of the American museums or galleries, rather than one over here, but beyond that I'm a bit stymied.

....anyone?

...Bueller?

Always Anti-fascist!

Dear Buffistas: As some of you may know,I'm on the editorial board of Breath & Shadow, an online literature journal by people with disabilities. The journal is now holding a write-a-thon invitational and I, being on the editorial staff, am one of the writers selected. As its name suggests, the write-a-thon is like a walk-a-thon with prose. I write a story of up to 500 words, and to get it published, I need five people to sponsor me, at say 2 cents a word, to raise money for the magazine that helped give me my start. Of course, any amount is welcome. Breath and Shadow is a non-profit magazine; subscriptions are free. It's the only magazine of its kind both written and edited by people with disabilities, and I can tell you it makes a difference having one of our people looking at my work.
If you are interested in sponsoring me let me know at my profile address. Pledges will be collected when the a-thon issue appears in the fall. Thank you,
Erika
