You like ships. You don't seem to be looking at the destinations. What you care about is the ships, and mine's the nicest.

"This bar smells like kerosene and stripper tears."

I can possibly answer any sock related questions you may have.

Shit's all sorts of different now.

Dana, you need two.

Unless you are a) a guy and 2) play for the RHCP. Then you need 3 sometimes. And sometimes just the one.

Wool ones are itchy.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Okay, so socks.

First of all, I have a pair of Mary Janes. First ones I've ever owned. If I am wearing them with either pants or jeans, what kinds/colors of socks am I allowed to wear under them?

Second, are there general rules for what color socks you can wear and how they have to match your outfit? Is it sort of a general complementary color rule? For years I got by with black socks and black shoes, but since I'm branching out into other colors, I suddenly feel a sock-related-knowledge deficiency.

I realize most of you have probably been dressing yourselves like adults for several years, but I somehow missed the course on socks.

Any color, so long as it doesn't clash with your shirt. I like stripes. Argyle can be cute, too. Oh, and those cute little lace trimed white things!

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Dana, this is exactly why I spend ten years only wearing black shoes. But I do think it's a general complementary color rule. Also, for Mary Janes, you should wear white socks with a frill.

"This bar smells like kerosene and stripper tears."

This may just be a personal preferance, but I like colored socks with Mary Janes. Cuts down on the cute-little-girl factor. As far as which color, I say as long as it's not too matchy matchy or clashy clasy, any color is fine.

Right? But then I feel like if I now own a pair or two of brown pants, I ought to at least have a pair of brownish shoes.

I am not wearing socks with a frill. Sorry.

"That Connie," we always say. "That Connie -- she's so damned frivolous!"

Seriously -- the unexpected bonus (as well as the prospect of more in the future) is fantastic for you!
