Pelosi warns Bush: Troop surge won't be accepted

(01-05) 11:28 PST Washington -- House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had a blunt message today for President Bush -- it's time for him to realize his policy on the Iraq war is "over.''
With Bush widely reported to announce a "surge'' next week of about 20,000 troops to help secure Baghdad for the embattled Iraqi government, the anti-war speaker warned the president that "a surge is an escalation of the war'' that will get a cold reception in the new Democratic-led House.
When was the last time anybody told Bush "No"?
Okay, it is friggin' Arctic in LA today, and the incredibly high winds keep threatening to peel either the roof or the front face off of our building. It's freaking me out.
When I drove out of my driveway at 6:30 this morning, it was cow-flying-by weather. I literally had to weave my way down the street because of all the crap (palm debris and random garbage) in the way.

I suspect the occasion was at the root of the frosty reception Bush Sr. gets from him these days. Who knew forcing your kid to read One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish instead of going out to play in the sand would have such an impact on the nation's Educational and Foreign Policy down the line?

I think MK is big at 13 or 14 lbs. Your sumo wrestlers wouldn't know what to think of a friend's cat who is a whopping 5 lbs. Teeny little badass.
Allyson is now the person that poseurs pretend to be.
I love huge orange cats. Man, lately I'm really missing having cats around.
In re: cooking, I don't. At all. It's safer that way. Thank goodness there's a Boston Market down the street or I'd starve to death. People who cook impress me. Like people who sew. It's like magic. They make things, and I've no idea how.

There's fancy cooking, that's difficult 'til you learn (and do do do), and there's get-supper-on-the-table / decent-food-in-your belly cooking, that is learnable, not scary once you do it, and not that difficult.
The biggest rules of thumb are:
1) When in doubt, add less -- you can always add more, but you can't take stuff out
2) When in doubt, cook more slowly, over lower heat -- you can't uncook stuff, but you can cook longer/turn up the heat
3) Macaroni is easy
4) Believe it or not, a roast beef is one of the easiest things you'll ever cook
5) The world doesn't end if you screw something up
