That was the secondary blast. The 1908 blast was caused by something else, and the smaller blast in 1909 was the cross rip. Record keeping can be a bit spotty, so it's understandable that the two blasts get confused.

Weird. I hit Random Article on Wikipedia and it pulled up Travis Air Force Base which is where my sister was born.
