And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

(Jessica, have you started wearing maternity clothes yet?)

Yep, just the past couple of weeks. I have 3 pairs of maternity pants from Old Navy, all supposedly the same size, each with a completely different waistline. C'est la vie.

My understanding is it's because they cut huge stacks of fabric at once, which means the top one and the bottom one on the pile are wildly different sizes.

That would explain a LOT.

But LOTS of places must do this with less wildly disparate sizing.

Jessica, are they all the same style? Because I've noticed that the sizing also varies hugely style to style.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

But LOTS of places must do this with less wildly disparate sizing.

My guess is the cheaper the place, the taller the stack of fabric, the greater the sizing disparity. But I only know this from pulling it out of my ass.

Art Crawl!!!

But Jesse, it sounds TOTALLY right.

Why must it be Monday? I need BSG to be on the night before a morning when I can sleep in.

Not to go all ita on your argument, Jesse, but Target which is somewhat cheaper, seems to not have the same issues as Old Navy. Old Navy is the worst when it comes to sizing. Which doesn't make me stop shopping there as I loves me some $4.99 clearance jeans.

Cheaper because they don't pay that well. Not only the height of the stack of fabric, but the skill of the person cutting it. I imagine they have a high turnover, and very poor quality control.

Not exactly, no -- one has the ginormous panel, and two just have a regular elastic waistband. And I think the jeans are cut differently than their other pants.

They all fit, just...very differently. I have to say I'm surprised at how much I like the ginormous panel-pants. They're ridiculous, but they're so comfy!

Yeah, I was thinking about Target as I was typing. I dunno.

I am hugely resistant to the ginormous panel-pants, yet I concur. They are ridiculously comfortable. I have some that I got from Burrell. I do like the under-the-belly ones though as I can and do wear them with regular shirts. And I have several regular pants that I wear unbuttoned and occasionally unzipped with what is essentially a tube top covering the gap.

Sigh.

In reality, I just wear a lot of drawstring yoga pants and pajama pants.

I kinda want to write to old navy and ask if they are on crack when it comes to sizing?
