Have you started your new job, Katie? How's everything else? Exciting!
Yes, I have! Well, kind of. I went in Tuesday and Wednesday so that I wouldn't get caught in any hiring freeze caused by the new governor coming in, and hey, hiring freeze came down Wednesday afternoon, so I'm glad I did. New Boss said he didn't *think* they would've refused to let me start, since I had an offer letter and all, but... better safe than sorry.
Everything else is basically fine, though I've still got a lot of unpacking to do. Washer/dryer have been purchased, though they won't get here until February 6th, so I'm sorry to say that there's a laundromat in my future. (Sigh.) There is a ridiculous amount of pizza in this part of the state and *nothing else to eat*. (That's an exaggeration, but. Pizza! Everywhere!)
IKEA!
Although I am sure it is a madhouse noon Sundays.
Hey, I could always go during the game... but no. No, I have already spent my lots of money for the day; I'm going to hold off. Besides, I need to get in touch with my friend from NY who I'd talked to about couch-shopping with me.
(I do need to *visit* the IKEA at some point. I hear it's an experience.)

Whew. Talk about dodging a bullet. I'm glad you made it in, under the wire. They might have ultimately let you in, but it would have been a big dose of stress no one needs.

I don't know your area at all. I wish I could recommend some great place for you to try. Work people should be able to give you some pointers.
It's lovely to have you here, even if here doesn't yet feel any more like here than there did.
I was at Ikea yesterday and it was a MADHOUSE. However, our shop-fu was strong. We have a ginormous almost floor to ceiling set of windows which run across one side of out livingroom. Since we are a guest house, the back windows of our neighbors look directly into the room, so we need curtains or it's the Robin and Jason show all the time. Our present curtains were rendered disgusting by the fact that all three animals like to sleep and or rub on them and washing had done no good. We found these net panels at IKEA, on sale for $3 (yes, three bucks per box!!!1!!) per pair and bought 12 boxes. I just put them up and they are all drapey and pretty and yay!
Am watching the Fox pregame thingie... they are showing some special thing on The Saints and New Orleans and Katrina and all that.
Reporter: "How important are The Saints to New Orleans?" (or WTTE)
Player: "I think it's very important - we're talking about a heartbeat."
... followed by the sound of a heartbeat.
WTF?

I bet the pizza places have calzones, too? Where are you living?
Yay for Ikea shop-fu!
I should seriously do something with my day. But I don't wanna! Am unbelievably lazy.
I decided to bring my radio out to the living room so I can listen to the local radio broadcast of the game and watch the TV.
Fuck. Neighbor's dog just attacked Lucy coming out of the elevator. He's little, so it was really just a matter of pulling them apart before Lucy defended herself fully, but fuck. This dog goes nuts whenever he sees her (and a few other dogs in the bldg) and I'm just fucking tired of it.
And once again, I am so so glad I put a lot of thought and research into dog temperament testing and socialization when I got her.
If you're looking to go halfway, Katie, there's an IKEA in New Haven, CT, that really should be about halfway between you and most NYC-type NY state places.
Sorry I can't help you with the finding food to eat. Closer to Somerville, I'd have some useful suggestions.
Is your new dryer electric or gas? If gas, I do believe that you have to get a licensed plumber/gasfitter to hook it up properly.
It's snowing. My vacuum developed a ginormous clog that I had to fish out. I'm doing laundry. I need to eat.
It's so exciting, can't you tell.
