And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Even with Bluetooth and Wifi turned off, I need to charge my iPhone every night or it will be dead in the morning.

With roughly the same internet & gaming usage, my old Treo could easily go for a weekend without being plugged in.

Don't get me wrong - overall I think the iPhone's flaws are outshined by the things it gets right. But there are still many things about it that drive me insane.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

I'm already on AT&T, since they ate Cingular, and the coverage is pretty good in my area. The iPhone is very shiny, and I've been coveting amyth's for a while now. But a friend of mine mentioned they have "targeting problems". I don't know what that means. (I could ask the friend, I know.) She really liked the G1, but I'm kinda nervous about what sounds like v1.0 of anything.

I suspect she's talking about the iPhone's annoying tendency to randomly switch between Edge and 3G even while sitting on a desk and not, say, in a moving car.

That makes sense. It would be extra annoying if that affected billing.

I am a Nokia fan and I had the N95 and now have an N85 and I really like it. I do have a bluetooth portable keyboard for when I get the urge to type and type.

omnis, pursue. That's an order from a shy woman who can use M-16. - Shir

I have never had a targeting problem of switching from 3G to edge. (I might mention, I have 1st gen, so there is no 3G on my phone).

Ya, battery could be better. I charge it every night, because, it doesn't matter to me, I'm not talking when I'm sleeping. Unless you forget your charger, like when I was in hospital, and then I was very gentle on usage until someone brought me a docking cable/charger.

But, I'll reiterate what Sean said... iPhone!

What Jess said about the "targeting" problems, though. When given a choice for web surfing, I'll take the wifi over 3G. And I think the wifi actually drains the battery less than 3G. Becaus yes, standing still, the iPhone will switch back and forth between 3G and edge. And during the second or so it takes to register on the new network? No data transfer.

I've also seen signal strength on the two non-wifi networks fluctuate quite a bit for no apparent reason, but all my phones have done that. I like to imagine it's the wind, dispersing the signal particles out of their proper particle stream.

Or the iPhone is so advanced it runs on neutrinos and hidden photons.

And tachyons. When you're having signal problems, it's because the tachyons are slipping backwards through time.
