Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Oh, you could try reseating the RAM?

If you reboot with the option key held down do you get a screen of boot device choices?

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I'm guessing the Tiger Update CD is a no go? Dammit. That's all I can find. I don't know if I had anything else, unless ... fuck. Would it have shipped with the laptop? I don't know where any other discs are. Man, this is my most-used machine.

I'll try the RAM. The memory doesn't do anything either.

I'll do that next.

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

The Tiger Update CD ought to work. You can boot from it, choose not to install, and run Disk Utility from the Menu.

Choose not to install. Good. Because install? NSM. The option key thingy did work, but I didn't notice any options other than installing. Will redo.

It's not listing Macintosh HD as a boot device... :(. It lists the Hitachi hardware, but nothing below that. I can't even select it for repairs.

Only thing I can think of that might help is to remove the battery and power then press and hold the power key for ten seconds. Then put the battery back, plug it in and power on again.

Thanks. I'll try that when I get back home.

I'm screwed, I bet...

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

My laptop overheats a lot, and I have never gotten the mouse button situation fixed. Is there anything I could do myself, given that I'm not overly techy? (I googled the overheating situation, but couldn't actually find the fix.) Alternatively, how do I find a good PC repair place?
