You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

it was fun to unplug the connection cable so it "played" the cassette thru the speaker, and drive my step-dad crazy.

I had no step dad, but the dog did that head-tilt thing that's always amusing.

Rats though, if we had the same computer as kids, I can't blame that for my dearth of tech geekery anymore.

All is well that ends in pizza.

FYI:

Best Buy National Electronics Recycling Program

Starting on February 15th, 2009 all U.S. Best Buy stores will accept for recycling most consumer electronics, including televisions and monitors up to 32”, computer CPUs and notebooks, small electronics, VCRs and DVD players, phones as well as accessories such as keyboards, mice and remotes.

A $10 recycling fee per unit will be charged for items with screens, such as televisions, laptop computers, and monitors. The consumer will instantly receive a $10 Best Buy gift card in exchange for the recycling fee. This fee does not apply for units recycled in California stores, and does not apply for any of Best Buy’s Exclusive-Branded products, such as Insignia, Dynex, and VPR Matrix.

Does hdmi pass closed captioning? I can't figure out how to toggle it with my new cable box, and the tv says not available when I click it on the tv remote.

What kind of cable box is it?

Motorola. Their pdf manual was more "check with your provider for features. Tthis is how you connect an HDMI cable to your TV".

Ah, found it on the Motorola website. It's nothing I can do from the remote (which is what I was using). It appears I have to do it from the few buttons on the front face of the box. I hope it then enables them on the TV to toggle on/off. I only use them when I can't understand what someone said, and then turn it off (or when I'm on the phone with family for HOURS at a time).

The model I have is the DCH3416. I found the info at [link] In case anyone else was having the same problem.

Now that I am home, the attempt to get cc didn't work. The cable box says subtitles ON. But I'm not seeing them. Guess I'll call tech support.

"Cry havoc and let slip the boobs of war!" -- Miracleman

okay, here is my pain in the ass, extremely first world diamond shoe problem, which I am trying to solve without making any purchases. or at least not a major one.

1. I have an HD tivo in the living room with a cable card, so that it recieves digital cable and the pay channels.

2. I have a series 2 tivo with a DVD burner in the bedroom, but it's connected to an old tv with an RF adapter, so I have only one set of RF inputs.

3. I own a laptop with a DVD burner, using Windows DVD maker.

My problem? I would like to burn DVDs of tivo recordings. Thus far, this has been impossible because

1. If I transfer a recording from the living room tivo to the bedroom (dvd burner) tivo, the machine automatically copyright protects the transfer so that it cannot be burned.

2. I can download the recording to the laptop, but the format is incompatible with the DVD burner, and wants me to buy $100 Roxio software. I figured this out after ruining 3 or 4 DVDs

3. Because of the RF adapter, I cannot hook up both the tivo and the digital cable box to be able to record shows on the DVD burning tivo.

Suggestions? Hacks? Freeware?
