HDMI is digital, so it either works or it doesn't. It sounds like it might be the box that's the problem.

Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!
did anyone else see the prototype GM/Segway PUMA? I'd copy/paste, but iPhone can't do that. It looks like a cockpit from the MASH helicopters.

A quick google turned up this: [link] and this: [link]
Balance issues too? Exercise bikes are so boring.
Big time.

Well, not exactly - you can get digital artifacting without losing the picture entirely (both of which are happening here).
The reason I'm sure it's the box is that switching the cables didn't change anything (the DVDs still look good and the cable crappy), but I'm just as sure that Cablevision won't replace the box if I can watch component video. (Since they don't supply HDMI cables.)
Can't you just say "My box stopped working, can you send me a new one?" and pretend that you don't know the difference between HDMI and component? Sometimes pretending you're as clueless as my dad actually works...
I'm going to try that, and cross my fingers that they won't need to send a technician to install it. (Which they did when I upgraded to the HD package in the first place because someone at Cablevision HQ forgot to activate my account. Why I couldn't have solved that myself over the phone I have no idea.)
Have I mentioned yet how much I loathe this company and every interaction I've ever had with them? Because I really do. They are making me miss TWC, which I never thought was possible.
Robots that make things. Hot. Want.
Can it make a copy of itself?

Oh yeah, I've wanted one of those for ages. Currently the only affordable way of getting one is making a kit (which is what ita's link is).
Hmmm... $750 is pretty cheap, even for a kit. I'm gonna have to seriously consider this one.
Maybe b.org should just get one. Then we can have the Buffista Fabrication Lab. Just think of all the tiaras and steampunk rayguns and whatnot we could make....
