Conficker activation passes quietly but threat isn't over. Apparently, it did activate (wasn't a hoax), but hasn't actually done anything yet; people are advised to keep on worm-hunting.
What is the test for that worm?
My university shut down the dial-up modem part of their system yesterday. (Which means I cannot connect from home 'til it's back up.)

Megan, a Tivo will work without a subscription. You won't be able to set up season passes, but you can manually schedule recordings.
Yeah, but TiVos are relatively expensive. I have to get a DVD player anyway. I don't get why there isn't a DVD/DVR that you can just set like a VCR.
This is what annoys me about "progress". You used to be able to get TV free. You used to be able to buy something fairly cheap that was easy to set and record. I have specific things I watch, I know what and when they are. I don't need it to be automatic.
Of course, since I'm not sure I can really justify spending $1000 a year for TV and internet, this may all be moot anyway.

If you don't need HD, you can probably get a used Series 2 off Craigslist for pretty cheap.

megan, I kind of love you right now. Not that I'm not a Tivo lover, but DUDE.
