Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

This looks pretty awesome: Tiny backlit wireless keyboard, just right for dimly-lit home theaters

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I get the setup job for any PCs bought in the US for my family. I've gone and installed the following on my sister's new laptop, knowing she won't use it all:

  • Firefox
  • Opera
  • Safari
  • Camino
  • Skype
  • Trillian
  • Flash
  • iTunes/Quicktime
  • Open Office

Am I forgetting anything big? There's no virus protection on it, but I think she has a purchased package at home.

Oh, how do I turn off User Account Control?

Hey. New board.

I'm a little confused on the idea of Camino for Windows, but okay. Um. How about a mail program? Thunderbird? Or does she do only webmail?

If she ever watches video, maybe VLC?

If she has a digital camera, maybe Picassa?

Adobe Reader?

Hey. New board.

Oh, and spyware/adware software. I don't know what's good these days, but i have to imagine it's still important in the Windows world.

(All of this assumes it's a PC, which I'm basing on the fact that you had to install iTunes/Quicktime and the mention of Trillian)

(Also, I would recommend Pidgin over Trillian anyway, but that's really a personal opinion)

Oh, how do I turn off User Account Control?

Start > Control Panel > Security > Security Center > User Account Control

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

Why does your sister need four different browsers?

Jon, we try not to talk about ita's sister's multiple personalities....

Calli: My people have a saying. A man who trusts can never be betrayed, only mistaken.Avon: Life expectancy among your people must be extremely short.

Since ita is the family installer, I suspect she installs all major browser to give users a choice. Plus if your preferred browser does not work on a particular site you can try a different one.

Yeah, but geez, Firefox AND Opera AND Safari AND Camino?? (What, and not Google Chrome? :P)
