I need Mac-ma. The latest Leopard update seems to have frelled my work Mac something awful. I can only start in safe mode - otherwise I get stuck at the blue screen.

I've downloaded & installed the disc image update from Apple.com, but restarting after that gave me the scary flashing grey folder! I'm restarting again in safe mode and will be running Disc Utility repairs. Fingers crosssed...

Jessica, another Mac-friend reports some problems with the update, it may not be just you!

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

Judging from the Apple forums, there are lots of people having problems with the latest update... but I haven't spotted any solutions other than using the freestanding updater and repairing, both of which you've done.

Woo hoo!

Standalone updater + updated Blackmagic Decklink drivers (updated yesterday in response to their old drivers BREAKING MY COMPUTER*) seems to have done the trick. Thank DOG.

*(okay, probably not mine specifically.)

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

wolfram,

sorry for the delay.

I watched the clip on firefox, and I believe I had flip4mac plugin for firefox and flashgot.

With both of those (or maybe it was only flashgot) I could grab the video.

Hey, I have a CD that has something on it, like a fine coating, kind of like when you leave something out for a really long time and it gets that weird sticky dust on it. It plays fine in my desktop, but won't play in my laptop. How do I clean the disc? water? alcohol? prayer?

if you have any purified water a spray of that and a soft cloth with strokes from center out to edge, not circular strokes. Tap water is frowned upon because it will have minerals and such in it, but eh. Netflix mentions for it's DVD's a mild window washer spray. You could try that.

Gizmo's like this are pretty good too: [link] There are cheaper ones out there at your local Blockbuster or Target.

I just have the one screwed up CD. I have some distilled water at home or water from a water cooler, will either of those work?

Distilled water is perfect! Spray it to get as small of droplets on the cd as possible, and wipe from hub to edge. Should be good to go.

I, too, downloaded the latest update for my mac, and all seemed to be fine...

But then I got home late last night, woke my computer up from sleep...and it refused to acknowledge my AirPort card. As in, went all spinny beach ball, so I restarted, and when I restarted, told me I didn't have one installed. I had to *plug a CABLE* into my computer to get internet. WTF!! And I restarted, and shut down, and no dice!

And then when I came out this morning, and restarted again? (And, btw, momentarily had the little weird questionmark file folder before getting the Apple one, at startup, which freaks me out)...

...voila, all good, wifi back and working fine. WTF, computer?!?!?!

DO NOT WANT.

It's under AppleCare, but who the hell wants to go brave the Apple Store any time around Christmas, I ask you?!?
