'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

Thanks -- hopefully I can get the LJ Heroes community address from SA. I tried the damn fpn file in VLC and it acts funny there, too.

Thanks so much! SA is trying to get me hooked up, but it's good to have a backup!

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

What do people use to clean their laptops?

(not that mine has pawprints on it, or anything like that)

Canned air for the keyboard (not that it gets all the cathair out...) and computer wipes I pilfer from the officemate.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

So my home XP machine reset its clock, but not my work XP machine. Both are set up to receive Windows automatic updates. WTF?

I mean, it's no big deal, but I remember my friends and I being impressed when we first saw Windows 95 reset itself for the time change, so I'm just annoyed - it seems we took a step backwards.

eta: Heh. The XP virtual machine on my MacBook reset itself correctly. But the time was already correct, as the MacBook had already reset itself. So my XP virtual machine got set two hours forward. That must be where the missing hour on my work XP machine went....

eta²: What's even cooler is that I had to install the newest version of the Virtual Machine software, so when I booted XP it told me I needed to install some updated VM tools (that run on XP). Installing those tools reset my XP clock back an hour, making up for the two hours it got set forward. So all is well in Virtual Machine land....

hip deep in pie

My photo iPod has developed a new tick. It's been suddenly shutting off as I attempt to navigate with the click wheel and centre button. Sometimes it reboots itself, other times I have to reboot it. It will be fine for a while and then go through a phase where everytime I try to navigate, it crashes. I've Googled and haven't found anyone citing the exact same problem. Anyone have any ideas? Is it just another step toward the grave for my beloved iPod?

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Skype users - can you record your calls and save them as audio files on the computer?

Cablevision just screwed up my phone service in a HUGE way, and I'm considering giving up the land line altogether and just using my cell for everything. The only reason we need a land line is for DH to record phone interviews from home, and I'm wondering if Skype might be a possible solution.
