GIMP 2.6 is drawing some good reviews: [link]

The revamped the UI, that's good news. Though I use the GIMP for raster graphics editing, I've never really gotten comfortable with the UI.

How can I tell iPhoto to stop opening every time I plug in my iPhone?

Can someone direct to me to a good guide to subnotes - Asus, OLPC and so on. Very basic capability - word, worksheet, graphical browsing, email. Something on the line of the OLPC, Asus or whatever. (Except the Asus's I have seen have truly awful screens. ) I probably would prefer Linux to XP because I want cheap, and I don't want the hardware XP needs. Maybe I should go used? I saw some OLPCs on ebay, but I'm very suspicious of buying used computers on ebay.

Hey. New board.

How can I tell iPhoto to stop opening every time I plug in my iPhone?

I figured this out at some point... I believe it's a setting in Image Capture, for what happens when you plug in a digital camera.

Unfortunately, changing the setting will also keep iPhoto from opening when you plug in a REAL camera. If you want to fix that, you can follow this fairly complicated-looking tip: [link]

Aha! I should have guessed an iPhoto setting would be located in a completely separate application.

I have no problem opening iPhoto manually if I *want* it to capture photos.

Shorter version question, drawing on your ebay knowledge. I have not shopped ebay before - so, if you wanted the item would bid on it from this seller?

How high are my odds of ending up with a non-working or damaged laptop? HOw good is ebay about geting me my money back in case of such an instance?

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

Well, the seller has a pretty good feedback rating, but hasn't really sold in several months. I wonder what that's about?

if you pay with paypal, you should be able to get your $$ back if you aren't happy with the product, same with ebay.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

With a 100% feedback rating and that many transactions, I wouldn't be too worried. If you want to be really sure, you could ask the seller a question and confirm that everything's in working order.

Anyone have recommendations for a cheap or open-source DVD/CD burning software? I have an .avi file I want to author a VCD or DVD with (just burning a data cd didn't work), and I don't feel like spending $60 on Nero.

Any suggestions?
