And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Got caught in the rain. Treo in my zipped-up purse under the stroller's rain cover got wet anyway. Now won't boot up. (Seeing only color bars.)

Have tried hard and soft resets. Phone dead.

Could be getting iPhone sooner than expected...

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

I'd take it apart as much as you can, and set it under an incandescent light for a day or two and see if that fixes it.

Unless you want an excuse to get the iPhone, in which case what I described will never work so you might as well not even try it....

Hmmm...I have a halogen desk lamp at work I could leave on overnight. (Assuming I set it away from anything flammable, natch. I already melted one corner of my monitor with this thing, so I know how hot it can get.)

My iPhone-oost is strong, but my bank account is weak. So I should probably try to rescue the Treo before I run out to the store.

This site brilliantly suggests a hair-dryer. Which I have!

After leaving the battery to dry out for a couple of hours, the phone seems provisionally to be working again. Unfortunately I have to put it back together to charge, but I can open it up tomorrow and let it dry more if I have to. Knock wood.

All is well that ends in pizza.

Art Crawl!!!

Recently, (as in - during this last week), my computer has started giving me this message about a "failed floppy drive" and trying to send me to "set up" and I have NO IDEA what to do about this. Does this mean that my computer is ill?

What kind of computer is it? When does the message occur? During bootup? When you're using the drive? Does it have a floppy drive?

Possibly the CMOS battery is dying and your BIOS settings have gotten screwed up. Does your computer have trouble keeping time when it's shut off?

Art Crawl!!!

It's a Dell and it happens when I bootup. I don't think I do have a floppy drive - just a cd drive.

It hasn't had trouble before. (But the first time it happened one of the things I had to do is reset the time/date.)
