No separate subtitles file that I can see, but I'll keep poking around.

Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!
help! my ability to save/download videos/podcasts/whatnot seems to have disappeared. When the Open/Save window pops up, I hit Save, and then nothing. No option for what location I want to save it to. I've tried Save Target As and again, nothing happens, nothing pops up. This is the third time I've noticed it (the other two I just assumed there was something wonky with the links, but now...)
Has anyone heard of this problem before? Know of any fixes? I don't even know how to phrase the problem succinctly if I were to contact HP tech support (tech support and I, we're not friends).
Anne,
this is an obvious question, but do you have the subtitle track turned on?
Julie,
what software are you using? Are you on a pc?
le nub, PC, HP Pavillion dv6000 laptop. I've been able to download tons of things since I got the laptop last year, and I can't think of what software I downloaded in the last month that would affect it like this. A virus or trojan coming in from a website or a download, maybe? I have Trend Micro-Antivirus and Spy Sweeper, and both their expirations are coming up, so maybe I should go with something different?
eta that I also haven't added any new software in the past month or deleted any software in the last month, or even updated any software. Not that I can recall, at least.

I looked for a place to turn it on but didn't see one. I'll dig around in VLC again.
Anne,
it is under the Video menu, Subtitles Track.
Julie,
are you using Firefox to download stuff? If so, close it and restart - that often helps. You also may need to create a new profile if that still doesn't work.
I also think you need to restart your computer.
Julie, if you recently upgraded Firefox, that may be doing something. Firefox set itself to automatically download to my 'downloads' folder even though that's not how my old settings were, and my downloads were disappearing until I put it back to the old way.
I don't use Firefox, but I did reboot the computer and did a test download and it's working.
Now for a really ditzy question: where is the Downloads/Temporary Downloads folder usually located? Cuz I can't find it!
eta that I found a previous link that wouldn't dl and now it is, so problem fixed. Rebooting, who knew? Oh, right, le nubian did, thanks!
Thanks, le nubian! It worked!
