I recycled something like 15 56k modems about 4 years ago. The are just useless.

Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!
ya, that's what I figure. Can't even use it as a fax line, since it has old school connections.
56k modems are still being used in rural areas where DSL/broadband no longer goes.
Of course everyone who needs one now gets it with their PC, usually.
I have a couple for failover uses and troubleshooting.
Daniel, since my tech goddessyness remains somewhat superficial, I am not planning to put this scary pile o' parts back together. I will let ND look at it, but if he doesn't want it, the pieces will head your way.
I can send you the original 80GB drive, actually, once we purge it. The one I removed was the new 160GB.
So ND, have you had a chance to look at her old macbook, yet?
t he asks innocently...
It's buried in a pile of godknowswhat in a corner of our dining room. It hasn't moved since I disassembled it. I haven't purged the harddrive and would have to find motivation to go through the process of pulling out the 160 GB drive from the casing, replacing it with the 80 GB drive, purging it, and then putting the 160 back. All of which I can do but haven't till this point.

It's on my list with a fair amount of other stuff. Once I can get the data moved to another drive and then wipe that one then I'll take a look at the machine to see if there's a place we can put it to good use, if not we'll probably send it your way.
Aha. No hurry. I was just reminded of it by my conversation with Omnis.
That and spilled soup seems to have recently happened to the top 1/3 of the trackpad on the Powerbook I bought from you for Andi.
Samsung shows off sexy OLED laptop, coming in 2009?
We don’t usually follow what all the other blogs are doing, but in the case of this Samsung OLED laptop prototype, there’s good reason why everyone’s jaws seem to be dropping. First of all, there’s that 12.1-inch 1280x768 OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) display — new screen tech that was flaunted by Sony and others at the past couple of CES shows — looking so sharp and contrasty that it’s hard to believe you’re looking at mere video.
