Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Oh. I thought it was so secret we were going to have to hold DCJ down and beat it out of him.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Does anyone have a favorite digital media server they could recommend?

I have about 3000 DVDs at work taking up way too much space (currently in about 15 albums) and would love to be able to ingest them onto a networked server instead.

[eta: these are screeners, not commercial DVDs, so there are no extras or special features or anything that we'd need the actual discs for. Just a bunch of TV shows and outs reels. We would need the ability to pull them into FCP to create clips from.]

How are you me? You need to stop that. Only I can be me. ~Kara

Daniel, I'm not sure what the difference is between the one you linked and the one you bought,and how much it matters for storage.

Also? I'm typing on my new laptop. It's an HP with a 2.0GHz dual core processor and 3G RAM. I'm happy, but will be happier once I figure out where all the keys are. Thanks for all the help, dudes.

DCJensen - May 17, 2008 5:09:33 am PDT #6249 of 25501
All is well that ends in pizza.

The difference is that the one I bought has another connector, should I ever upgrade to a computer that uses the new Serial ATA hard drive controllers, and has an external port.

It can also handle a module that can swap that eSATA port out with a firewire connector.

In terms of actual storage? none.

omnis, pursue. That's an order from a shy woman who can use M-16. - Shir

silly question here. As I've started to clean & declutter my wee lil apartment, I've determined I have an awful lot of old computer stuff. Anyone interested in:

  • SCSI external Hard drives
    * SCSI cables & terminators
    * ADB mice, keyboards, trackballs, cables
    * Apple Quadra 650 in spiffy carry case
    * Apple 5300c PPC Laptop with backpack (the bag is too small for modern laptops)
    * PowerMax Apple Clone
    * Radius 81/110 Apple Clone

Doubt it, but couldn't hurt to ask. One never knows what one collects.

That said, I'll probably take them to the haz-waste recycle center. Shame, they still work
