I love logmein.com.
Logmein Free is free!
Oh, wow, that's pretty neat. But I'm a little scared! Is it secure? I mean, I'm essentially giving them remote access to my computer, aren't I?

Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!
I love logmein.com.

Another random question from Clueless! Girl!
Is there a way to restrict access to an Access database?
Myself and the other specialists have started a radiocarbon dates database in our office, and we want the other staff to be able to look at the data, but not add or change data. Is that possible?
P-C,
I have found it to be secure. They have something about this in their FAQ.
I sometimes have to access my work computer from home and the beauty of the logmein features is that it has settings where I black out the screen and disable the keyboard so no one can use my computer (at work) while I have it remotely controlled.
You can also disable the software program if you don't want it running all the time.

Look in the Tools => Security menu. There seem to be some options there.
If you want something a little more secure, you can get Radmin for windows machines. It's much much faster than any other remote program I've ever used.
It costs $50, but is shiny. They have a 30-day free trial version at [link]
Combine any remote program with dyndns.org and you have a remote solution.
Just wish they had a version of Radmin for OSX.
Huh. Wonder if I could access my home computer from work that way.
I use VPN for work. The guy here set it up, so I don't have any idea about difficulty or cost, but it works well.
logmein.com is pretty cool, and works through work firewalls. GotomyPC.com is very similar, except not free (from memory).
I'd say logmein.com is secure enough, Polter-Cow. It's been around for many years and I've never heard of any problems with it.
There's also a utility which lets you access a Windows XP PC from an iPhone. You don't need to install anything on the iPhone for it to work, it's browser based.
I have to write up a little bit on a UI that I like and why and a UI that I dislike and why. The like was easy - I went with my iPhone (loves). I know there are UIs I hate, but none are coming to mind this fine Monday morning. Want to throw some out there to get my brain moving? Can be apps but also can be Web sites.

Office 2007. Word 2007, in particular. It's as if a 4 year old was asked to redesign it.
