Computer use is full of learning by disaster. In some ways, it's like my knowledge of cars. I can often accurately diagnose in other people's cars all the things that have gone wrong in mine, but outside of my realm of experience, it's all "here be dragons." The file in question wasn't quite that large, but I suspect the size is why it's all wonky. I had another, earlier, backup that worked, but I'm still in the depressing situation of having to e-mail clients and say, "You know that picture you sent? I hadn't actually gotten around to saving it, so could you send me another?"

Is that there for you?

It is, and it's unchecked. I don't get what other setting is catching this.

Ginger, you may know this by now, but this is a common enough problem that Microsoft has (somewhat successful) recover programs available. If you are missing important stuff you might do a search on the Office support site.

It would be better if Outlook just told you it was getting too big before the practical limits, not the theoretical limits that some designer had in mind.

I just got hired to create and teach a course on VBA in Excel to people at the financial company I used to work with. Accidental consulting!

I'm mostly using Excel VBA Programming for Dummies to get ideas on what should be taught (I'm a little out of practice), but anybody with Excel VBA experience have some tips and tricks they think everybody should know, maybe some add-ins that anybody really delving into programming Excel in VBA should know about? I'm going to teach them about Dictionaries, for example, which aren't covered in the book because they're provided by the Scripting Runtime.

After seven years of daily use as a PDA and a music player, my old Sony Clié won't hold a charge for longer than a couple of hours anymore. Time to replace it, but with what?

The Palm T|X would (I think) let me keep all my current apps. and games and data, plus give me web browsing over WiFi. The transition should be pretty straightforward, but the model is already three years old and I haven't heard of any prospects for new designs or an updated OS. Is Palm a dying dinosaur?

For the same price I can get an 8Gb iPod Touch, but the range of apps. and games to match what I'm used to aren't out there yet. What are the prospects?

Ideas? Suggestions? Recommendations?

I don't think Palm is a healthy company, that's just my 2 cents. I have no insider knowledge. I had a Palm T|X that I liked (bought it last year and sold it after I decided to move to a smart phone). Might be you interested in Windows Mobile devices?

It seemed to me when I purchased the T|X that Palm was focusing on the Treo and other phone/pda pairings. After my very negative Lifedrive experience, I think Palm just isn't putting a lot of focus into its pda lines.

I think there is a sale on: buy a T|X and I think you get another pda for free. I think I saw that on engadget.

What am I missing.

If you can make Word or Outlook format it correctly once, you could always save that version as your signature. (Which would be kind of a PITA for emails you wanted to sign differently, but possibly less of one than correcting Word's capitalization every time.)

dcp, have you looked at a Centro or a Treo? They don't have wifi, but they do have (cellular) web access and run PalmOS.
