Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

Why the fuck did Google Images fancy up its results display? Now I have to hover to see image sizes and the web site it's from. Not entirely sure who that's better for. Worse for me, for sure.
Did they always have the option to then search for more results just from one site in particular - like so: [link] ? Because I just saw that option and it is kinda nifty. Not sure if it is enough to get over my annoyance at the change but it's something...

Our wings are not tired

But, do you think I could request Best Buy to reinstall XP and take away Vista?

I think you'll have to find an existing stock machine with WinXP. As of yesterday all new shipping machines have Vista.

Anyone ever use a version of Windows prior to 3.0?

Yeah, I worked for Egghead software for a few years at the end of the 80's so I played with Win286 and Win386. I believe they were some version on Windows 1.0 or 2.0.

No doubt about it. The only other alternative is to find and buy a full copy of XP. I really don't think you'll have much trouble with Vista unless you have a bunch of games or speciality software. Many people in my office use Vista and haven't had any trouble with it.

I got a flyer from MicroCenter yesterday evening that had an HP laptop for $749 with a $150 MicroCenter rebate. I bought a computer awhile ago from Microcenter for $350 with $100 rebate and I did get the rebate even if wasn't exactly fast.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

I read earlier that, apparently, if you want to upgrade to Vista (instead of buying a new computer), there's no way to do a clean install -- you have to install it over your existing installation of XP. Blech!

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Yeah, they did.

There's a workaround for the clean install problem.

Kathy, I agree with the go with Toshiba assessment, but I personally would be hesitant to buy a refurbished laptop (which are more likely to have problems than refurbished desktops since the former tend to get beat up quite a bit in use) from an on-line only seller. But that could just be me being paranoid.

Is there a return policy or warranty information anywhere on the seller's website?

We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

There's actually not a bad one:

REFUNDS-30 DAYS; WARRANTY-90 DAYS

We allow returns for refunds 30 days from the purchase date. We will issue an RMA for all defective items and items for refunds. This process takes 24-48 hours to complete. The item will then need to be shipped back to us or to the manufacturer repair facility, at customers expense. We will cover all return shipping back for any defective items that are repaired or exchanged. This warranty is good for 90 days on most products. Please email any specific questions before ordering.

Yeah, they did.
Bastards. Then I see no redeeming feature for the new way of doing things. It just bugs.

That's not too bad, though new laptops ususally come with 1-year limited warranties these days.

I understand the not wanting to deal with Vista, though.
