I like my own stuff too much.
ita, do you mean you like your own servers (and chairs and surroundings) vs Starbucks?
because the first thought (and this could be thx to the 365 photos I vacationed in about 30 minutes ago in order to keep from jumping out a window... esp the shot w/Noah) was - yeah, we like ita's stuff too: photos, programming skils...
t /mad, unsanctioned hero-worship
Just got an email from my dad and am seeking advice:
I still haven't used the BestBuy certificate that you and Drew gave me and am thinking of getting a new cell phone. I hate the one I have prinmarily becase I keep hitting a button on the side of it when I go to open it. That results in muted sounds and volume changes and drives me nuts. The other reason is that Virgin Mobile does not have as good reception as other companies - which I discovered in the mountains when I was out there. Virgin Mobile doesn't have any contracts, so I think I can switch to anything... suggestions? It doesn't have to be fancy since I rarely use the camera on the one I have and the only person who sends me a text message is sister Kathe. I think I am signed up for 600 minutes now, but I don't use all of them because minutes are free after 7:00... a Catch-22 situation since 300 minutes didn't give me any free minutes. So, if you have any thoughts, let me know.
Things to know: he is very serious about not wanting something fancy. An iPhone would horrify him. Also, like he says, he talks somewhere around 300 minutes a month, and he is a complete and utter cheapskate.
Suggestions?
Well, NSM servers, but the rest of my tech stuff--peripherals and applications that live on the desktop--needs to be within fast reach.
Never discount the chairs. They are very important factors in me getting anything done.
I doubt I'm worth hero-worshipping, but I'll take some propping up right about now.
Does no one care that I recovered my cache of bad (and good) 80's music!! And didn't blow anything up!!
I care! YAY recovering music!
I am so going to point the finger at my awful Staples chair for the screwup this morning. It deserves it. (not to mention the humans that I elected to trust, rather than scripting around them. darn you, humans.)
yay for music recovery!
Kristin - where's your dad usually? There are some cell phone coverage maps to look at... ::waddles off to find them::
Sox, he lives in CT, but he spends the winter in FL.
I think his options at Best Buy are limited to Verizon and Sprint - I don't think they sell unlocked phones.
As far as not wanting something fancy goes, his best bet would probably be to sign up with a contract and get one of the free phones, which tend to be pretty no-frills (though most of them will still have cameras). Which still leaves him with a gift certificate to spend...would he have any use for a Bluetooth headset?

Virgin uses the Sprint networks, so if he's having trouble with it it's not likely to change.
