Man iPod's are a hassle. How on earth did they get to be so popular?

Because, for one thing, most everything else was worse.
And it's not a hassle for most things. I've successfully plugged mine into two separate computers and downloaded the music from the pod to computers.

Huh? Okay, Sony fucked up big time with the early digital walkmans but I'm not sure what else could be called "worse". I've got a couple of MP3 players and they were just drag and drop like USB memory sticks. Nowadays, I just use my Nokia 6085 mobile phone as an MP3 player and it plays music just fine and is also a simple drag and drop.
I've docked my iPod before in another Mac, it just transfered all the music and movies automatically.
but we're not talking about macs, so this doesn't help
Vortex, I used instructions like the ones you linked to earlier, and it worked pretty well. I think I lost a few songs, and some songs lost their metadata (they showed up in iTune with a four letter code for an name.) Also, it doesn't transfer over your playlists, just the songs.
It doesn't delete them in the iPod, though right?
No, it just copies, as if you were transferring something from a flash drive.

I'm thinking you missed the word "was" in my sentence. Apple introduced the iPod in October 2001. It's interface was one of the prime factors in sales.
Yay!
Starbucks Ditches T-Mobile For AT&T
Under the existing plan with T-Mobile, Starbucks customers needed a paid subscription to access the in-store Wi-Fi, and T-Mobile HotSpot subscribers will continue to have access to Starbucks Wi-Fi thanks to an agreement between AT&T and T-Mobile. But the new AT&T plan allows all customers two free hours per day, with a $3.99 fee for additional two-hour chunks of time....
eta: More yay:
In addition, AT&T broadband customers will be able to surf at the more than 7,000 Starbucks locations in the U.S. for free.
so, if you have an iPhone or iTouch and pay for an AT&T data plan, you can surf in Starbucks for free?
