This girl at school? She told me that gelatin is made from ground-up cow's feet and that every time you eat Jell-O there's some cow out there limping around without any feet. But I told her that I'm sure the cow is dead before they cut its feet off, right?

Bwah! That's an awesome conversation.

I've come to realize, I don't need the shiniest. I mean, I think this 'puter is 2001 vintage and I got it in 2003, and it is only that upgrading it further is problematic, and stuff is starting to fail on it that prompts me.

So the new fancier stuff is good news to me because it means the refurbs will be a better deal for me. I mean, christ, I'm still on dialup.

I think I've decided against a mini. Who knows, maybe getting a fancier-to-me laptop will result in me actually moving off dialup!

I think so. It has the cool B and .org in gray kind of on top of it.

"This bar smells like kerosene and stripper tears."

Does anyone know how I might get a video from a camera phone into iMovie so I can edit it? It's in .3gp format (I have no idea what that is)

The Apple TV is very nice, but I think I'm going to buy a MacBook Air for most of my work, and set my current MacBook Pro up as a media center in the apartment I get with my sister. We'll drop cable, buy The TubeStick (with its really cool recording software and FrontRow-replacing MediaCentral software) to get any over-the-air TV, and use iTunes to get the rest / rent movies / etc. Not quite as elegant as the Apple TV, maybe, but functional and with DVR capabilities.
I've been eying the EyeTV from Elgato. And with Macworld, they have released a new version of the software. Also, it seems with MacWorld expo, they are having a sale on their hardware, selling at refurb'd prices. [link] Also, if you happened to have done a search for an old piece of hardware they don't sell anymore, they give you this nice coupon screen that takes another 10% off. [link] Which, for me, paid for ground shipping. Curses, how did my Visa card escape from my tight fisted moneyclip??? Anyhow, just an idea, in case you can't wait until Feb for the one you linked.

Aaaand my google maps just pinpointed my location almost exactly.
Funny thing, since the cell service in my apt is eh, it gave a very WIDE 'pinpoint'. But when I turned the wi-fi share on from the iMac, and re-searched, the pinpoint was within a few blocks. CRAZY. Spooky too. Who says the internet is anonymous?!?

Although, WOW! I'm displaying current freeway traffic conditions on my Google maps right now, AIFG!
Ya, you wanna know what's zannier?! Try doing directions now, it gives you an estimate "33 minutes with traffic".... HELLO, WITH TRAFFIC!! Didn't do THAT before! I gotta try it out in the morning when there is some yellow/red and see if that estimate increases.

ETA the link for the coupon.

Can someone help with what should be a simple html/css problem? I've got an unordered list. I want bullets on some items, and no bullet on others. My style tags work correctly in Firefox, but in IE (versions 6 and 7), I'm not seeing bullets in front of ANY of the items. Am I missing something obvious? Here's the page: [link]

I figured it out. The problem is that I was applying a width attribute to the UL: [link]

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

DJ, I was able to open my .3gp camera phone video files in Quicktime, but if iMovie doesn't like them, you can probably convert them to .mov with either MPEG Streamclip or ffmpegx. (Or Quicktime Pro, but thatll set you back $30 - the others I linked to are free.)
