We now have a laptop, well it's mostly for my wife. A Toshiba with a gig of ram, 120GB hard drive, DVD burner, and Pentium Dual Core processor (A T2310, which I don't know much about, I think it is the mobile form of the E series processors which would make it a budget version of the Core 2 architecture) for $530.

This is my first experience with Vista. Vista seems OK, but a bit sluggish with start up and shutdown compared with XP. That may be more laptop vs. desktop though. I might bump up the memory to 2 gig anyway, it looks like it would only cost about $50.

An unexpected bonus, out of the box it can hook up over wireless and stream all the video on audio stored on my mythbox.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Yesterday I read an article arguing that Vista was a crappy OS for low-end laptops, as they don't have the power to run it well. The article said that Vista generally needs 2 gig of RAM to be stable and what-not.

Article said that XP or Linux were much better for low-end laptops....

An awesome idea from xkcd: [link]

I dunno, it seems to be running Vista premium just fine. Windows pop up promptly, programs start up ok, Firefox doesn't seem sluggish, it streams video without stuttering. The only couple of things I've really noticed is that start up is slow compared to my desktop, but it's not "go grab a cup of coffee" slow. Also, picture thumbnails are much slower than my desktop running Kubuntu, but it isn't really painful.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Gud, where did you get your new laptop? (Not that I need a laptop. Cause I don't.)

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

I have a new laptop!

Not that I'm any good for sources, as it came from The Nice IT Folk At Work.

Circuit City, they had an after black Friday sale. The same laptop on NewEgg was $650, so it became an early Christmas gift.

OK, I guess this could fit here?

I'm wondering if anyone has played the new Assassin's Creed game. A friend and I are probably going to go together to get another friend an XBOX 360 game for Christmas, and I think it looks pretty awesome. But reviews are mixed...

I haven't played it yet (cantwaitcantwaitcantwaitNEXTWEEKcantwait), but the reviews I've seen have been overwhelmingly positive -- what have you heard otherwise?

IGN gave it, like, a 7.2, said it was trite and boring.

But I don't know anything about IGN, they could be talking out of their ass. The user comments were much more positive.
