Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!
Oh, and apparently you can put native games on your iPod touch, if you're willing to hack it.
You can also install widgets on an iPod touch. (I'm pretty sure, anyway.) Or maybe only widgets based on HTML and Javascript. There are
some
Javascript games that run on web pages out there....
I have an IP address I'm supposed to publish something to, but there's an additional bit of information attached.
It looks like this: xxx.xxx.xx.xx:8000/foldername
I assume the folder name is the name on the server, but I don't know what the 8000 is, and I don't know how to google for it.
The :8000 is the TCP port number. It means that the HTTP server is listening on a different port than the standard port 80. The person who gave you the IP address left out the http part, so it should look like [link] Whatever tool you're using to upload the file should recognize the :8000 part of the URL.
The person who gave you the IP address left out the http part
No, that was me. I skipped it so it would display properly.
Thanks, Tom. I also don't have any kind of user name or password. I suppose it's unlikely that I can just FTP in.
Hey Jess, does the iPod touch do internet at all?
Yes, it has Wifi. I've been trying (unsuccessfully) to find an unsecured wireless network to connect to at work all day. (Because it's my birthday and my boss is out of the office. Motivation to do actual work = GONE.)
I'll Google when I'm back at home & can get online with it.
In the meantime, it's sure as hell one pretty pretty iPod.

Ooh, nice list, OA. Bookmarked.
Ooo! I just found a shiny!!!! You can add your own ringtones to your iPhone! And it does NOT require a hack. It does NOT void your Apple Warranty. And they have a "try before you buy" ability!

Kinda funny. Here I have a fancy schmancy phone that can play all sorts of high quality sounds, and what do I do? I find my favorite cheesey 8-bit(ish) MID file that has been my ringtone for YEARS and convert it to a AAC so my phone can play it. Once again I have "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" as a ringtone
