On a related note, I have a quick question regarding dinosaur adaptability.
In addition to my i & e Macs, I have a Powerbook g3 that has been on the shelf for years. Started right up just now, bless it.
My question is, how can I network the laptop and the eMac together? Or simply transfer files from the powerbook to the eMac?
I'm spending a lot of time away from home this week and would like to take the opportunity to get a huge writing project done for my new website.
I am fine with doing all the writing in simpletext on the laptop and then formatting everything on the eMac later.
Problem is, the laptop has no usb ports.
I've got an external zip disk and a smart disk reader, but both of them are usb.
My neworking cable has bits that don't plug into the eMac.
I also have a Sony Spresso, external cd, but can't figure out if it can be of any use.
And a Lacie d2 cd/dvd burner...but I can't see how that could help either.
Sidenote, the place I'll be staying has a only a decade old pc and a pokey dial-up, so emailing files might not work either.
Any ingenious workarounds possible?
Does the powerbook have firewire?
Dumbest question ever...how do I tell if it has firewire?
::off to look that up::
if it has FireWire, it will have a port that
sort of
looks like a USB port, but a USB plug won't fit in there.
Thanks Sean. I went the wiki route and discovered that mine does NOT have firewire...which was introduced in 2000. My Powerbook is a 1998 Wallstreet II model. So, no joy there.
Bonny,
The Wallstreet had an ethernet port on the back under the flap.
You should just have to use a standard Ethernet cable to connect the two, then use file sharing.
Or if you have broadband, a small hub or router, or even a second port on the DSL box would suffice and give the system an IP.
Then sharing would let you apss files.
Might have to turn appletalk on on an OSX machine, if your eMac is OS X.
Thanks so much Daniel!
An old bf left an ethernet hub in my technical stash. That must mean I have an ethernet cable.
Yay!
I wonder if I can transfer the copy of Photoshop on the laptop to the classic environment on the eMac.
Too much to expect?
I have the best DH in the whole wide world - I woke up this morning with a shiny new iPod Touch on my desk!!!
So my question to all the techistas is, what sites do I need to have bookmarked in order to make sure I'm using this new toy to its fullest? Has anyone figured out yet out to install Freecell or Scrabble on it?
Hey folks. I've got a website I want to monitor for changes: [link]
I want to have it checked about once a minute, and it display a visual notification, make a sound, send an email or some such when it changes.
And I'm on a Mac...
Anybody seen anything like that?
