You can't leave me to my own devices; my devices are Nap and Eat. -Zenkitty

So, I originally set up my iPod nano on my PC, and then switched it over to my Mac. Now iTunes won't update firmware for it, as it's originally formatted as a PC iPod. If I restore it, will that allow it to reset to a Mac iPod, and become update-able?

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Another iTunes question: I bought a new computer. How do I get iTunes from my old computer to my new one, with all my music and videos?

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

Zen, it should be as simple as picking up the iTunes folder, assuming you've kept all the song files organized within. If not, moving the exact folder structure of all the song files is very important for iTunes being able to locate all the music in its library.

Also: backup thoroughly. I didn't, much to my grief.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

If I restore it, will that allow it to reset to a Mac iPod, and become update-able?

Yes - I had to do that to our office iPod after the VP took it home and synched it to her laptop.

Sorry, Theodosia, but what does that mean, "picking up the folder"? I can't just click and drag; it's two different computers.

Just assume I'm completely ignorant. Not far from truth.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Zenkitty, is this Mac or Windows?

Anyway, you'll need to either network the two computers together to do this (just temporarily, to copy the files over) or else take the drive from the old computer and put it in an external USB enclosure or mount it in the new computer. Probably you have too much music to make backing it all up to CD or DVD an easy option.

Oh, if either computer is a Mac you can boot that computer into target mode (hold down Apple-T during boot) - the computer in target mode will now only function as an external USB or Firewire drive, allowing you to use the other computer to copy the files.

It's Windows, tommy. I don't know how to do either of those things. I feel really stupid and annoying now. I shall Google - oh, hey, Apple actually has a step-by-step instruction page for how to do this! My god. A helpful website from a computer manufacturer. I'm stunned.

Whenever I come into this thread, I feel like I walked into the Mario Andretti Car Advice thread and asked how to make my car go. I swear, I used to understand computers. Back in 1997.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Zenkitty, how are you transferring your files from your old computer to your new computer?

If you're not doing that, how much extra room do you have on your iPod?

How much music, in GBs, do you have?

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

ND, you ended up returning your Harmony 880 because of timing issues, didn't you? I had to increase the startup delay to 7s because the new TV is very slow warming up. I was wondering--did that option not exist when you had it, or did it not go as high as you needed?
