I hate to break it to you, oh impotent one, but you're not the big bad anymore, you're not even the kind of naughty.

So....

I got this really awesome gift from a really awesome friend of mine, as a thank you for some stuff I did for him -- it's one of the new 8GB iPods that can do video. Verra cool.

However, I do have one question that's probably not all that B'Tech worthy, but I'll ask it here anyway:

WTF is this white plastic tray-thing that came in the box for?

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

WTF is this white plastic tray-thing that came in the box for?

It's an adapter to make it fit in docking stations that are designed for larger sizes.

Also? AWESOME gift.

Yeah, it really is. And it came on top of some pretty cool stuff I was already getting for the work I've been doing, so I'm feeling pretty good right now -- both appreciated and appreciative.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

I need an IDE (hopefully free) for perl on OS X - recommendations?

Also, has anyone done graphics programming on perl? I just need to do simple stuff, like create a graphic file with circles, lines and some text on it....

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

CamelBones lets you write perl code in Xcode. It's probably overkill for what you're looking for.

For graphics, you will probably want to use the GD module.

iPhone users: I've been trying to set up GF's Gmail account ever since we got our phones (months ago). Even though I select POP and recent (emails from now on) under Gmail > Settings, all of her email loads onto the phone. V. v. irritating. I've gone to a few forums and tried some stuff that hasn't worked, but thought I'd ask here just in case.

Why she cancelled her .mac account I'll never know. Grumble, grumble...

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Can anyone recommend a trusted source for Symbian OS software? Most urgent thing I'm looking for to complete my migration from my Palm is a password keeper, but obviously it has to be reputably secure.

I grabbed a few games off a random site, and they already make me nervous and I'm probably going to wipe them off soon.

Cool. If you're balking at Vista for whatever reason, Microsoft will let you downgrade Ultimate or Business.

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

FWIW, I've learned a couple things about Vista from installing it this weekend/the internet. One, if you buy an upgrade disk, apparently you can't clean install it and validate it-- you need your XP disk to install, which I don't have. But according to the internet you can cheat by installing from the vista disk and then upgrading from the same disk, then activating. I haven't tried this yet.

Also, it's pretty ridiculously slow unless you turn off a lot of the features, like indexing. I was surprised at that. I understand it works well if you have top-of-the-line equipment, but I thought that was the case with my Latitude D800.
