I realized I should have asked here for help first but I'm here now

M's cousin who is here all the time has a daughter, I'll call Mac, who is 11 or 12. She is really into drawing and she saved up to buy an older iPad. It's just her mom, her grandma and pretty much us in the picture. And her mom is hopeless with technology.

Anyway she got a 5th gen iPad. I don't know how much she paid for it but it's so old that she can't get a stylus to work with it.

So I was wondering if 1) anyone knows of a stylus that would work with that iPad or 2) if there is a newer version that would work better but would be super cheap to buy. Or where a good place to buy one would be.

I might try to help her in some way to get a better one because I'm regretting not offering to help to do research and helping her get what she needed when I heard she was going to buy one

I still have a 1st-gen iPad, and I don't really do much with it, but the first two things that come to mind to suggest are:

1) Check what stylus she is trying? Is it an Apple product, or something else?
2) When I go to Settings, I see a section for Apple Pencil, and in that I see a toggle labeled "Only Draw with Apple Pencil." If that's on, try turning it off.

Ok I'll check those and see what happens.

Yeah, a generic stylus should work, as a replacement for a finger, even if like the "Apple Pencil" and fancy extras don't work?
