Mr. Scola’s wardrobe by Botany 500

I have gone through five pairs of earphones in the last year.

Six pairs of earphones in the past 15 months. Sigh.

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

You're really Lightning Lad, right, visiting us from the 31st century? That would explain it. Or Harry Dresden.

(Sorry, Tom, that sucks. It is always the same device?)

The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know.

Good news! My phone did not explode.

It has now been replaced by a phone which is (in theory) less likely to explode.

Yay for non-explody phones.

Just used the GreaseMonkey extension to add something to a website I use. I was able to add a new handy feature with seven lines of javascript. Why have I never used GreaseMonkey before?

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Can anyone explain this difference in download/upload speeds to me? I have Comcast cable internet and also DSL from the phone company. On DSL, my connection is adequate, and about the same whether I'm on VPN or not. On cable, my connection is blazing fast without the VPN but when I'm on VPN it's not much faster than the DSL. I don't understand why the VPN matters to cable but not to DSL.

This makes it a toss-up between the two as far as work. I haven't tried streaming with my Roku on the DSL yet. DSL is much cheaper, of course, but I can't decide if I should drop cable.

Our wings are not tired.

It sounds as though the VPN is the bottleneck. Are you using something terrible like SonicWall or something a bit more reliable like Cisco VPN?

It's Cisco. Work VPN.

Ah okay. Well the answer is going to be that the VPN speed is going to dictate your speed while in use. It's a pain but it would be so much slower if you were on SonicWall!

I suspected as much. In that case, I just need to see if the Roku works well with the DSL, and if so, bye-bye cable.
