Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

Well, I've decided that in January - assuming I get an actual raise and not one like last year's where my take-home pay went DOWN after the "raise" kicked in - that I'll upgrade to an actual smartphone. I've been using my old flip phone (try not to laugh - I'll get enough of that when I turn it in).

Any suggestions for which phone? Basically, I want to make phone calls and do a little texting; my hair salon has gone to text-only reminders and the dumbphone won't let me reply. When I try to hit "c" to confirm, it autocorrects to "Cab" ... NOT the message I want to send.

Well, if you are looking for just the basics, I'm pretty happy with my Moto E that costs like $50.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe

Todd, I used a flip phone until February of this year. I use a Moto G, which is either the model before Gud's Moto E, or the one after it, and it's great for basic stuff.

My needs are few and simple ... thanks for the info!

The Moto G (and probably the Moto E) is also one of the smallest smartphones, dimenson-wise. I don't know if that makes a difference to you or not. Most definitely bigger than a flip phone, but smaller than most smartphones out there.

In this case, size really doesn't matter (snerk).

Thrive to spite them

Dad has a Moto ...not sure which one. I highly advise you get a casE for your phone. And if the case doesn't have a built in screen protector one of those as well.

I drop my phone a lot.

I have a Speck case with a Zagg glass shield and I had to replace the shield recently. . I sat on the phone and the shield cracked bit not the actual phone. Fir full protection Otterbox is good and they have a warranty on their cases.

The big smartphones are too unwieldy for my tiny hands. It's weird.

I have a Note 4 which is one of the larger phones. I got it party because if the size but partly because I thought I'd use the stylus and note features. I dont.

However my eyes are at a stage where I don't need bifocals but to see far away I need a prescription that makes close things blurry. I don't always have to take off my glasses for my phone but when I was helping Dad with his phone I needed to take my glasses off.

This probably wouldn't be such an issue if I didn't use my phone more for the Internet than anything else.
