Any thoughts on this for my Mom's new computer? [link] Pretty basic use - but i also know that windows is going to continuously add patches which will slow int down. How will this work in four years when OS patches & App software upgrades nearly double the resources used. Is this hard disk fast enough for the long term?

I'm going to also get a quote from a basic box shop.

For 50 bucks more, this seems like a better deal from Fry's. [link] - thoughts?

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

I definitely go the Core I3 over the older Intel tech, but I'd be worried about Lenovo's recent history of stuffing all sorts of spyware/adware on their machines.

Here's a similar ASUS core I3 for twenty bucks more. And here's an ACER core I5 for $20 less than the Lenovo.

Thrive to spite them

I'd go with the i3 over the pentinum, the i5 is probably too much for what she needs but it's $20 less!

thanks $20 less plus I've learned the hard way, get a little bit more powerful computer than you think you need - in the long run you won't regret it.

Please please please let this be true: Apple will launch a new 4-inch iPhone early next year, says analyst.

I shouldn't let my hopes get too high, though.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

The Return of the Flying Toaster

Remember that old Mac screensaver? This tribute runs in a browser so it works on any computer.

About 25 years ago a coworker showed me this on our Mac. It cracked me up that you can control how toasted the toast is.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Aw, good old After Dark! That takes me back.

ETA I am finding having that in an open tab I can click to whenever I need a little mental break is very soothing. I wonder if anyone's done a similar thing with Satori, I remember really liking that one.

All is well that ends in pizza.

I remember there was a Bloom County parody version that had Opus shooting down flying toasters. After Dark issued a cease and desist and they had to change it.

I actually have a few boxed copies of the later Bloom County version in my basement
