A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

Wordpress.org question. I'm writing a post that includes the string "x10" (I'm describing a box set of 10" vinyl records as 5x10"). Wordpress sees the "x10", decides that it's unicode(?) and converts it to a character that appears as question marks. I just want to to display the original 5x10". If I use a capital X, it works fine. Is there a filter or somesuch to prevent these substitutions?

On edit: Looks like it only does the conversion if there's a digit before the x10. So, 1x10 converts to 110, 2x10 converts to 210, etc.

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

Jon, I don't know wordpress, but does it happen if you use the html entity for times (×), i.e., 5×10"?

edit - As in I had to use the entity for ampersand to get the code for entity for times to show up properly.

Yes, the issue is with displaying a times symbol. Apparently Wordpress substitutes a times symbol when you type a lowercase x between two numbers. It does this with various characters, most notably substituting in smartquotes for straight ones. See [link]

Now I just need to figure out how to add a filter that turns off the times piece.

I actually wouldn't mind the substitution if it displayed correctly! No idea why it isn't. It's supposed to be using UTF8.

Heh. Someone made a plugin that does what I need: [link]

I still don't understand why the × isn't displaying correctly, but whatevs.

Ok Folks, even though I was laid off doesn't mean I can't want something.

Do any of you have old Nikon camera lenses with F or AF mount laying around and want to find a good home?

For services rendered, I have been given a Nikon DSLR body, but all of my lenses are 30 years old and Pentax (working on an adapter) so anything might be helpful, let me know.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Help!

Anyone know why a stylesheet would suddenly stop loading for some web users but not others? The web server is a late-model IIS server. Looking at the server log I see some 401 (unauthorized) errors for the stylesheet file for certain users.

eta: It's a 401.1 (invalid user credentials) error. Some users get this error on certain files while other users never get it.

eta2: We solved the problem. It was actually a database issue.

Networking question here.

I'm using Dante (which is an audio over ethernet thing). This is on a Mac Tower running 10.7.5. In the system pref's I set up a manual IP on Ethernet port 1 (there are two hard ports on this computer). The second port has nothing connected. The Wi-fi is for internet.

The manual IP address is 192.168.0.55. When I connect it to the mixer the virtual sound card says the IP address for that port is 192.168.2.2. If I go to terminal, and do an "ifconfig", it tells me this:

en0: flags=8863 mtu 1500 options=2b ether 00:17:f2:01:f9:32 inet6 fe80::217:f2ff:fe01:f932%en0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x4 inet 192.168.2.1 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 192.168.2.255 inet 192.168.0.55 netmask 0xffff0000 broadcast 192.168.255.255 media: autoselect (1000baseT ) status: active

Tech support says I have a VLAN running that is configured wrong. I, for the life of me, can not find how to turn OFF a VLAN I do not recall creating. Any thoughts? Ideas? Observations?

The Dante is working, it's just a head scratcher. Wanna make it right.
