I have found my iPad much more durable than originally anticipated. I have the Zagg bluetooth keyboard case. Works great. Not sure I'd say it protects it all that much. I will say, I do not move fast, and don't typically have butter fingers, so dropping hasn't been minimal. It has survived several drops from waist high, to laminate/cement floor. They were "belly flops". The only times I've seen the screens crack, were drops on the corner, and very few cases have all that great of protection there. And those drops on corners, do not take a lot of height to crack the screen.

Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!
I've dropped mine a few times with no ill effect. I have the wifi version, so don't really take it anywhere, but had no need for a case or for AppleCare 1.5 years later.
Hmm. So maybe I just get a decent (not insane) case and not bother with AppleCare. I do tend to have butter fingers.
If you want a sturdy case, this is the most robust I've seen (via internet, not in person)
iPad in case, dropped off 3rd story balcony.
No clue how bulky it is to actually use. And most drops happen in use, not transport, so, not sure how practical it is.
Oh right, co-worker got this case for the iPad he lends out to students. It's Mil-Spec. Should survive minor natural disasters.
I do have the Griffin webpage open, and a 20% coupon.
And related to that, anyone have a particular case they particularly like for protection purposes?
I have a skin on the back of mine because Apple things tend to be slippy and I slide it across couches and beds. I also have a case for travel.
My sister uses LifeProof and the twins have not destroyed her things yet.
The only crack on my iPad is where Kittenish gnawed on it. Now that she's been gone for so long, I am hoping it never dies because it's a sweet reminder. Now. I was annoyed at the time.
I have a Logitech keyboard case. It doesn't protect the screen from anything but dust, but still, KEYBOARD.
I have a few different cases that I use for different things. The one I get the most use out of is a purple plaid one I got at Target. I forgot the brand name, but it comes in a bunch of patterns and colors, and it's got plastic things that the ipad snaps into. My little cousin threw her dad's iPad across the room while it was in one of them, and the iPad was fine.
