Oh, yeah. There was this time I was pinned down by this guy that played left tackle for varsity... Well, at least he used to before he was a vampire... Anyway, he had this really, really thick neck, and all I had was a little, little Exact-O knife ... You're not loving this story.

Hey. New board.

Yeah Jessica, looks like NILS is your best bet if you keep playing with it. If it becomes incompatible when/if you drop down to a lower level of Android, Widget Locker is pretty good.

Though I'm honestly thinking I might simply disable my lock screen completely. Neither the home button or lock button on my phone are particularly easy to press by accident when its in its case (which is always), so as long as I make sure my phone is off before I pocket it (which is pretty much my habit) then I don't think I really need it. I'm keeping it mostly out of habit at this point.

msbelle,

I looked into it a few years ago, but I can't help you with pros and cons. Lifehacker has done a bunch of articles on hamachi, so you might start there.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

As long as I get work email on my phone, a lock screen will be mandatory. Even though you have to log into the mail app again, the widgets showing meeting and email names might be too much info.

Oh, yay, financials.

So, if I wanted to start a blog, and I want it to be easy to update from my phone or ipad (since it'll be a travel blog, and I'll be...traveling), what would y'all recommend?

omnis, pursue. That's an order from a shy woman who can use M-16. - Shir

I like it, but even with my phone volume turned all the way up and the app volume turned all the way up, it's hard to hear the commands when I'm on the highway.

I have it going through the radio and play music from the itunes app. Waze will pause the music, say "Turn right onto Walnut Ave...." then resume the music. I think in "audiobook" mode, it pauses, and out of that mode, it just ducks the volume of the music.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

That's a good question, meara. I know that Wordpress.org offers free hosting for basic blogs, fwiw.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

This is what I have too - if I'm driving and listening to the radio, I'm probably somewhere I know well enough not to need the voice navigation.

Coding and Sleeping

Wordpress has an app that can update a blog, but I don't remember it working very well. Been quite awhile since I tried, though.

Tumblr's very trendy right now. I don't like their mobile app, but I don't know if the iPad one is the same as Android. Anyway, I just use the web browser even on my phone.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

I know that Wordpress.org offers free hosting for basic blogs, fwiw.

wordpress.com is the hosted service -- wordpress.org is the free software you install on your own hosting. The mobile apps work equally well whether you host with them or on your own.

Either way, second the WP recommendation (but note that I might be a bit biased).
