Thanks, Jessica, I'll check them out tomorrow. I don't really need that much space but needed a reality check (I'm just trying to expand to use my new 30GB ipod and do backup on my enormous 10 gb iBook laptop from who knows when! Heh.)

Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!
You know, I've been sorta ignoring all the complaints about iPods until...my iPod broke! Is it seriously the case that for most users, it'll just crap out on you after two years and you'll have to buy a new one? I can't believe that service costs the same as a new frickin iPod!
Yeah, what they are really selling you is a delivery system subscription service. You load up all your stuff into iTunes and you pay them 200-500$ every couple of years by buying a new player so you can listen to it. It's evil genius, but that doesn't make it any less genius. (on iPod #3 here)
That actually makes me feel a bit better, since it's about what I'd pay for something like Netflix and wouldn't use for over an hour a day.
Yeah, I find that after about 2 to 3 years they may die, but I guess it doesn't surprise me that much, I've got a 3.5 year old laptop that is in pretty rough shape, my cell phones tend to be in pretty rough shape after 12-18 months, when I used portable CD players I rarely expected them to last more than about 2 years before the motor in them would start to die. I suppose I just accept that a lot of technology doesn't last forever.
One of these days I'm going to have to get someone to send me their dead ipods so I can take one apart...

Nobody uses webcams?
C'mon...get into the 21st century!
And then report back to me on what I need to get my parents there.
Well, you have to remember that many of us don't like showing our faces in real life, much less on the interbunny.
We do know that ND had a webcam at one point.
ION, I bought a 500 GB Maxtor OEM SATA drive from newegg.com last month for $189. It's very roomy.
I suppose I just accept that a lot of technology doesn't last forever.
I have an environmentalist rant about this, but since I also really really like buying new toys, it's a pretty half-assed one.
The only webcam I ever had was a free one that came with my Dell, ages back. It was cheap and crappy, as befits a gift with purchase, and so I threw it out when I switched to Mac.
We have an iSight at work, but I've found that in order to use it for video chats, you really need a separate microphone (ideal would be a headset) because in order to be heard, you need to be so close to the camera that the person you're chatting with is basically looking at your chin.
