I could possibly break mine into DVD sized chunks for now. I should probably do that while I waffle about how to get both machines totally backed up.

I wonder how well punch cards would work as a backup....
If ND wanted to back up 1 TB of storage, he'd need 13,743,895,347 cards. If it takes one second to punch each card, that'd take about 435 years to do a backup. Assuming 1000 cards per cubic foot, it would take 3436 rooms (10x20x20 ft) to store all the cards.
I wonder how much of the annoying punch card mini-confetti there would be.
I'm actually considering going back through my current DVD archives and switching them over to hard drives. Right now it's a filing cabinet drawer that is pretty full of DVD's and CD backups. I need to go through at least a third of them because I used Retrospect as a backup program for a few years and I don't use it any longer and I'm paranoid about it going off the market at some point or losing compatibility.

What about the hanging chads?!?
Random question re: cellphone contracts. So, my contract is up on Thursday. If I try to port my number ON Thursday, is that too soon? Do I have to wait until Friday, so they don't claim I'm cancelling service early? (Can you tell I am desperate to get a new phone??)
Good question. I think you need to contact your new service place and ask how long it takes to port numbers.
Porting mobile numbers in the UK takes something crazy like 3 weeks.
Oh, I'm told it used to take a few days, but now only takes a few hours...can anyone confirm?
I porter my number the first day you were allowed to a few years ago and it was done in 24 hours.
