omnis, pursue. That's an order from a shy woman who can use M-16. - Shir

OK, so I unplugged it for 20ish minutes, rather than 2 or 3. And now, it's working again.

I got my new NAS yesterday. It appears to be about ten times faster than the current dying (though probably fixable) NAS. But I can't believe how much shit this thing can do. I assume it's just basically a linux computer, but they've put nice UI on a ton of features.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

What brand did you get, Gud?

And for those of you that have NAS, I am still wondering--is the performance lag I see normal for the class of device, or did I choose poorly for one component or the other?

(I don't do enough volume of work on my Windows, wired PC to tell if it has the same lag as the OS X wireless laptop, but over five minutes to populate a Finder window is more than annoying--it becomes disruptive)

I will shift this NAS to be archival only if a new one of similar cost and flexibility will perform better. But I don't know.

Our wings are not tired

I have always had some lag with my Seagate NAS, my Drobo has much better performance.

I got a Synology. A pretty low-end one, but it still does a lot.

Here's a link to what I got: [link]

I only have two drives in it at the moment since I don't need more yet. I intend to expand as needed.

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

And how are you backing it up...?

It's in RAID 1 configuration and it is the backup. Don't have offsite backup except for a few things.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

On the wired PC, the display of this test folder was effectively instantaneous. Unwired, to the laptop--I opened the window before navigating to the Synology page, read it, came back here, started typing, and it's not populated yet.

Gotta find the damned network cable and see what the speed difference is there. Sure, I expect slow, but seriously? Still? Not yet?

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Cool, Gud, thanks for the link, because I've pretty much concluded I need to repace the Linkstation. I pulled the USB drive off and am reformatting it exFAT to us as one of the Pro Tools externals. It's maybe halfway through from last night.

ita !, I have lag issues, but minor, not nearly what you're describing.
